AYES: Bisaillon, Botta, Heller, Nalbandian, O’Brien, Ratto NAYS: None VI. COMMITTEE AND LIASON REPORTS A. FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION - Councilman Arthur M. Nalbandian Congratulations to the new appointees. Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Congratulations to the Fire Department on the townwide fire drill. There was excellent media coverage and it was a worthy effort. Ramsey Day was a huge success and I would like to thank Nick Saros for his time and effort. Meredith, Sherry, and Irene did a great job at the Borough’s booth. The 9-11 ceremony was very moving and I would like to thank Jim Dougherty who did an excellent job as well as Peter DelVecchio for the fitting music. We are in the midst of a slight water emergency. It was handled extremely responsibly and everyone takes it very seriously. Cathy LaFleur has completed her exam as Deputy Municipal Court Clerk. She did very well and I would like to recognize her for that. B. PUBLIC SAFETY – Councilman David J. Bisaillon Congratulations to the new appointees tonight. New volunteers are always appreciated. Ramsey Day was a great day. I want to thank the members of the public safety organizations and all the municipal employees, particularly Nick Saros, Meredith, and Bill Horton. The police, fire, and rescue did an outstanding job. Rich Strangfeld and Bill Lanning did an excellent job on the townwide fire drill. This country has never experienced anything like Katrina and there are still conditions that demand our attention. The 9/11 memorial was very well done. We are very proud of Jim Dougherty for his outstanding speech. I am liaison to the Water Board but I will defer my comments to the Mayor. C. BUILDING & ZONING – Councilman Joe Ratto Congratulations to the new volunteers. My condolences to Jeff Heller on the passing of his mother. My apologies to the Ramsey residents for the inconvenience with the water situation. Unfortunately, the 911 system did not work well and we are looking into that. D. UTILITIES, BUILDINGS & GROUNDS – Councilman Christopher C. Botta We received a letter regarding all future grant funds for the year 2006 and I would ask the Administrator to look into Restore NJ for Downtown Revitalization and the Park ‘n’ Go for local parking studies. My congratulations to Cathy LaFleur on receiving her Level II certification. The leaf schedule will be going out shortly. The routes are rotated every year and leaf pick-up will be starting on Monday, October 3. Congratulations to all the organizations who took part in Ramsey Day. Everyone worked well together, and my thanks to everyone for their hard work. 6
E. PUBLIC & GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS – Councilman Jeffrey C. Heller We should all have sympathy for those whose lives were affected by Hurricane Katrina. This may have been the largest natural disaster we will see in our lifetime. I wish Godspeed to all of those people. My thanks to everyone for their condolences in connection with the death of my mother. My thanks to Art, Chris, Dave, Richard, Pete and Nick who made it to Chatham to be with me. I truly appreciated your presence during that time. F. HEALTH, EDUCATION & SOCIAL SERVICES – Councilwoman Julie O’Brien I echo my colleagues on comments across the board. It is the campaign season and we all want to do the right thing. I have not and will not touch any Siemsen/Vozeh signs on any lawns. There have been a number of complaints from residents about the signs being removed. We had one person who has had 4 signs removed. I will not touch any signs and I hope that we will have the same consideration. G. MAYOR RICHARD MUTI It was indeed a fantastic Ramsey Day and Nick Saros did an outstanding job of organizing it and you had a lot of help from Meredith and her staff, as well as Bill Horton and his staff at the DPW. All of the employees pitched in and made it a wonderful day for our citizens and our civic organization. Nick and Rich Mammone put out an excellent copy of the Borough of Ramsey Journal that we hope to put out on a quarterly basis. This edition had many interesting articles pertaining to Ramsey Day. My congratulations to Mike Adams, Director of OEM, for obtaining recertification of our emergency operations plan from the NJ Attorney General’s office. This is a lot of work that Mike does periodically to get recertified. My thanks to the leadership of the other emergency organizations as well for their involvement. I too would like to congratulate Cathy LaFleur for successfully completing those Court Administration courses, I might add, with distinction, placing among the highest in her class. I do want to give an update about the current water emergency situation. As you know, notification went out to residents Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. via the reverse 911. There were some residents who did not get notification and we are upgrading the system. That system has only been in effect for less than one year, so it is a process to make sure that everyone gets on the list. We are going through that process for the next notification so that we have fewer residents who do not receive the notice. I would also like to thank the Home and Store News for acting quickly to get the Boil Water Advisory in their edition that came out on Wednesday. We contacted them Monday evening late in the afternoon. They held the presses for us. We got the information over to them and they very graciously printed that information so that it would get out to residents as quickly as possible. We also were in contact with other news media so that word could go out in those other media. I think there was an article in the Bergen Record on Tuesday and perhaps other newspapers and radio stations. The emergency involved the presence of bacteria in 3 out of 16 tests and I think it is important that I give you a little bit background information. 7
