Aleppo pine forest is the most important part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the site in terms <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> flora. Besides Aleppo<br />

pine (Pinus halepensis), a rare species for <str<strong>on</strong>g>Turkey</str<strong>on</strong>g>, forms a forest, there are six species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

top priority in c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong>. All <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these species survive in glades. After the site was<br />

designated as a nature c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> site, human use was totally prohibited. The<br />

prohibiti<strong>on</strong> enabled Aleppo pine and maquis communities to develop and prosper in the<br />

glades.<br />

The best populati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Lim<strong>on</strong>ium ocymifolium is nearby the mud marshes.<br />

The first and <strong>on</strong>ly record <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Halopeplis amplexicaulis species is in Berdan Stream Delta<br />

The different dune structures in the site support different floras. The dune plant variety is<br />

so rich that it resembles a botanic garden. Plant species, their distributi<strong>on</strong> and canopy<br />

coverage diverse according to the sand structure. The variety <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> sand dune vegetati<strong>on</strong><br />

diverse according to their distance to the sea, whether the sand dune is active or<br />

permanent, the ground water level and the structure <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the sand dune.<br />

Fish<br />

Ceyhan Delta supports 27 fish species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 10 families. Apart from these, it also supports<br />

Mosquit<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>ish (Gambusia affinis), an exotic species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Poecilidae family.<br />

Amphibians and Reptiles<br />

Six amphibian species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> four families and 42 reptile species <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 11 families are recorded<br />

in Ceyhan Delta. The Luschan's Salamander or Lycian Salamander (Mertensiella<br />

luschani) the Salamandridae is endemic to west Mediterranean.<br />

Nile s<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>tshell turtle (Tri<strong>on</strong>yx triunguis) copulates at the river mouth and breeds by<br />

nesting in the coastal dunes. Yumur <br />

Birds<br />

Lago<strong>on</strong>s is the important stopover, resting and feeding area <strong>on</strong> the bird migrati<strong>on</strong> roads<br />

passing through Anatolia. 252 bird species have been recorded in the site so far. The<br />
