Lake Uluabat <str<strong>on</strong>g>Ramsar</str<strong>on</strong>g> Site meets 4 out <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 9 criteria for identifying wetlands <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

species listed in<br />
Internati<strong>on</strong>al Uni<strong>on</strong> for<br />
C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nature<br />
(IUCN) red list categories.<br />
The site supports threatened pelican<br />
(Pelecanus crispus), near threatened<br />
medicinal leeches (Hirudo medicinalis)<br />
as well as vulnerable plant species such<br />
as Sagitaria sagittifolia and Stachys<br />
palustris.<br />

An important site for the<br />
critical phases <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> biological<br />
cycle <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> mammal and bird<br />

The site regularly supports<br />
large numbers <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
waterbirds.<br />
An important site for fish<br />
species.<br />
European river otter (Lutra lutra) is an<br />
internati<strong>on</strong>ally protected species<br />
inhabiting in the envir<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Lake<br />
Uluabat. Additi<strong>on</strong>ally many waterbirds<br />
use the site for resting, wintering and<br />
breeding every year.<br />

55.089 in 2007 are recorded in the site.<br />
The site is critical for fish in terms <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
breeding and feeding.<br />
MANAGEMENT PLAN<br />
Ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Envir<strong>on</strong>ment and Forestry Directorate General <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nature C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> and<br />
Natural Parks is the competent authority resp<strong>on</strong>sible for the activities within the wetland<br />
and <str<strong>on</strong>g>Ramsar</str<strong>on</strong>g> site boundaries. The local competent authority is Bursa Directorate <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
Envir<strong>on</strong>ment and Forestry.<br />
HYDROLOGICAL ASPECTS<br />

Karst springs in the bottom and immediates <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the lake and the streamlets reaching the<br />
lake during rainy seas<strong>on</strong>s also feed it. Besides, the drainage water <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the agriculture<br />
lands in the southeast <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the lake is another inflow. The inflow to the lake remarkably<br />
