activities in the planning process for the success <strong>of</strong> implementation. A scientific data foundation
where proposed interventions to the area would be evaluated beforehandedly, to define
precautions or to cancel the intervention, is accented as useful in the improved understanding <strong>of</strong>
wetland ecosystem and taking perceptinle steps towards their conservation. However we are still at
the beginning and we have problems empowering participation in the preperation process and the
implementation <strong>of</strong> the plan as adopted by all parties. Steps such as strengthening coordination
among institutions and increasing the capacities <strong>of</strong> parties that will prepare and update the plan lay
ahead <strong>of</strong> us. We need practice towards securing the financal aspect <strong>of</strong> wetland management plans
with regulations, monitoring more technically, and developing awareness on the importance <strong>of</strong>
wetlands at a national scale.
The current situation where local interest groups are uniting as to more actively participate in the
stage <strong>of</strong> manag
Delta, the increasing pace <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ramsar</strong> Site Management Plan practices, bring hope both for the
lessons to be gained in process and for the wise use and participatory management <strong>of</strong> wetlands.
Evaluating and making use <strong>of</strong> the results <strong>of</strong> past and present studies on wetland management for
the upcoming term will increase success rate in the conservation and management <strong>of</strong> wetlands. A
comprehensive approach to wetlands covering all sectors and their importance becoming
comprehended by everyone is still one <strong>of</strong> the most important steps ahead <strong>of</strong> <strong>Turkey</strong> in the
conservation <strong>of</strong> wetlands.
