Kizilirmak Delta is <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the richest wetlands <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Turkey</str<strong>on</strong>g> because <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these<br />

features.<br />

Ownership Status<br />

The possessi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> land within the Kizilirmak Delta can be categorized as public<br />

property, private property, unregistered and appealed (not clear whether public or<br />

private). Main part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the public property is the forestry areas which are under ruling and<br />

possessi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Envir<strong>on</strong>ment and Forestry. Private properties are the<br />

agricultural lands and housing z<strong>on</strong>es.<br />

Protecti<strong>on</strong> Status<br />

Different protecti<strong>on</strong> statuses with various boarders are identified to protect the<br />

wild life in Kizilirmak Delta. The statuses in the site are first, sec<strong>on</strong>d and third degree<br />

Natural Sit Area with, Wildlife Development Area and <str<strong>on</strong>g>Ramsar</str<strong>on</strong>g> Site.<br />

Kizilirmak Delta meets the 8 criteri<strong>on</strong> out <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 9 <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Ramsar</str<strong>on</strong>g>. These are;;<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Ramsar</str<strong>on</strong>g> Descripti<strong>on</strong><br />

Criteri<strong>on</strong><br />

Criteri<strong>on</strong> 1 Representing the vulnerable<br />

habitats, typical to the Black<br />

Sea, in good grade.<br />

Criteri<strong>on</strong> 2<br />

Criteri<strong>on</strong> 3<br />

- Endangered flora species<br />

- Endangered fauna species<br />

- Endangered habitats<br />

Delta meets this criteri<strong>on</strong> due<br />

to being <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the most<br />

important habitats in Black<br />

Sea for a large number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

species.<br />

Criteri<strong>on</strong> 4 Kizilirmak Delta meets this<br />

criteri<strong>on</strong> because many bird<br />

and fish species c<strong>on</strong>centrate in<br />

particular period (wintering,<br />

breeding, feeding, overnight<br />

stays) <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> their life cycle in this<br />

area.<br />

Kizilirmak Delta<br />

- Broad-leaved, mixed, flooded forest<br />

Wet grasslands<br />

- Jurinea kilaea<br />

- Leucojum aestivum<br />

- Pancratium maritimum<br />

- Rhap<strong>on</strong>ticum serratuloides<br />

- Thelypteris palustris<br />

- White-headed duck (Oxyura<br />

leucocephala)<br />

- Crane (Grus grus)<br />

are some <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the endangered species.<br />

The most important habitat for Alosa<br />

tanaica, black stork (Cic<strong>on</strong>ia nigra)<br />

and comm<strong>on</strong> otter (Lutra lutra) in<br />

Blak Sea.<br />

An important habitat for crane (Grus<br />

grus), white-headed duck (Oxyura<br />

leucocephala), comm<strong>on</strong> spo<strong>on</strong>bill<br />

(Platalea leucorodia) and Acipenser<br />

gueldenstaedtii, Huso huso,<br />

Acipenser stellatus.<br />
