Lakes and the <br />
<br />
supports eel, flathead mullet, carp and bluefish and Paradeniz supports sea bass, sea<br />
bream, comm<strong>on</strong> dentex, sharpsnout seabream, saddled seabream, white seabream,<br />
striped seabream and red porgy.<br />
Amphibians and reptiles<br />
<br />
amphibian and reptile species. Green toad, tree toad, plain frog, red-headed whip snake,<br />
lebetine viper, ocellated skink and comm<strong>on</strong> chamele<strong>on</strong> are some <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these species. The<br />
<br />
turtles (Caretta caretta) and green sea turtles (Chel<strong>on</strong>ia mydas) through the<br />
Mediterranean coasts. Endangered Nile s<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>t-shelled turtle is also known to exists in the<br />
site.<br />
Birds<br />
One <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the rare coastal wetlands in Mediterranean regi<strong>on</strong>, natural structure <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> which<br />
s numerous waterbirds with feeding, breeding,<br />
wintering and stopover opportunities with its c<strong>on</strong>venient climate c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s, varying<br />
habitats and available nutrients. In the observati<strong>on</strong>s so far, 328 bird species are recorded<br />
in the site. Purple her<strong>on</strong> (Ardea purpurea), squacco her<strong>on</strong> (Ardeola ralloides), blackcrowned<br />
night-her<strong>on</strong> (Nycticorax nycticorax), marbled duck (Marmar<strong>on</strong>etta<br />
angustirostris), ferruginous duck (Ayhya nyroca), purple swamphen (Porphyrio<br />
porphyrio), st<strong>on</strong>e curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus), collared pratincole (Glareola<br />
pratincola), kentish plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), spur-winged lapwing (Hoplopterus<br />
spinosus), little tern (Sterna albifr<strong>on</strong>s), Smyrna kingfisher (Halcy<strong>on</strong> smyrnensis) are the<br />
bird species breeding in the site that earn the site status <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> wetland <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />
importance. For being highly rich in terms <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> bird species, local and foreign birdwatchers<br />
have haunted the site. There are five birdwatching towers, <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> them bigger, in the<br />
delta.<br />
Mammals<br />
Wild boar, wolf, fox, bear, badger, squirrel, weasel, hedgehog and rabbit are the primary<br />
mammals seen in the site.<br />

Archeology<br />
<br />
archeological values. Three mound remnants within the delta are presumed to bel<strong>on</strong>g to<br />
Hittite period. Great building remnants from Roman and Byzantium times were<br />
discovered in the sand dunes around Paradeniz Lago<strong>on</strong>. There are some other remnants<br />

Byzantium and Armenian remnants in the west <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the delta dating back to 13-14 th<br />
