Golf News FROM THE GOLF SHOP Time flies when you’re having fun!! Can you believe that the summer is almost over? Before you know it, the kids will be back in school and we’ll have to figure out what our kids want to be for Halloween. But before we go that far we need to go over all the great things that are happening around the club. July was an excellent month for events. The Member- Member was contested on July 10,11, & 12. The Member-Member was a 5 9-hole match play contest with flights. It brought some excellent camaraderie and a lot of fun. Congratulations to the team of Jerry Jonson and Patrick Artiaga for winning the Member- Member. Current point standings for the season are available online at moragacc.com under Golf. and distance. Try this the next time you practice your driver. Golf Rule of the Month: Bill hits his ball into the bunker in front of hole #1. Bill notices that his ball is plugged in the sand. He proceeds to hit the ball out. On the green he recognizes that the ball he hit was not his. He then says: “Because I was in the hazard there is no penalty, so therefore I get to re-hit out of the bunker”. Is Bill correct in his assumption? Answer: No. Two years ago that was the case, but under the new rule you’re allowed to identify your ball before hitting regardless if you’re in a hazard. Bill would incur a two-stroke penalty and have to replay from his original location. If you have any rulings or questions on decisions don’t hesitate to contact the golf shop. Thanks and have a great August. MCC Events The month of July also gave us our July 4 th couples tournament. Congratulations to the team of Jim & Carole Wolf and Tony & Cathy Barbagallo. They shot a scramble score of 49!! That will take first in any field. Check those handicaps! We also had one of our very own members/staff qualify for the United States Junior Amateur Tournament. If you don’t already know, Bjorn Kallerud qualified for the US Amateur in the month of July. Congratulations Bjorn—we’re proud of you. We’ve also begun our rotation of Couples Twilight golf outings. The first Twilight golf was July 31 st . The next remaining Twilight tournaments are August 21 st and September 18 th . These are both Fridays with 3:30 shotguns followed by dinner and awards.
