Architecture Canada | R AIC Report on RAIC Activities Awards RAIC administers several awards programs to recognize excellence in the profession – the RAIC Awards of Excellence, the Governor General’s Medals in Architecture, the RAIC Gold Medal, the Prix du XX e siècle, National Urban Design Awards, the Architectural Firm Award, Young Architect Award, and the revised President’s Award for Media in Architecture, now a category of the Awards of Excellence. Governor General’s Medals in Architecture The Governor General’s Medals in Architecture recognize outstanding achievement for the “art” of architecture in recently built projects by Canadian architects. This program, created by the RAIC, contributes to the development of the discipline and practice of architecture, and increases public awareness of architecture as a vital cultural force in Canadian society. These awards are administered jointly with the Canada Council for the Arts, which is responsible for the adjudication process and contributes to the publication highlighting the medal-winning projects. His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston presented the recipients with the medals during a ceremony for the 2012 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture February 1, 2013 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Awards<br />
