RAIC IRAC RAIC | Architecture Canada the leading voice of architecture in Canada Established in 1907, RAIC is a voluntary national association representing more than 4,600 members—including architects, faculty and graduates of accredited Canadian Schools of Architecture from every region of the country. It provides the national framework for the development and recognition of architectural excellence. Membership Members include Licensed (or Registered) Architects, Architectural graduates, Intern Architects or Interns, as well as full-time faculty members of a University School of Architecture. Architects who reside outside Canada can become International Associates. Architects who have graduated outside Canada and reside here in Canada may make a special application to be considered for full membership. A full-time student from an architectural program in a Canadian accredited University School of Architecture or in the Syllabus program can become a Student Associate. Also, those who are involved in the Design and Construction Industry and who are associated with the architectural profession can become Affiliates. A Greener Canada RAIC has consistently led the charge toward a more sustainable builtenvironment—incubating the establishment of the Canada Green Building Council; and developing the Sustainable Design for Canadian Buildings (SDCB) series for architects; emphasizing the importance of life-cycle costing and ways to educate building owners about the importance of long-term operating and maintenance costs in all management and design decisions. RAIC is part of the 2030 Challenge—a global initiative calling for an immediate reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in all new buildings and major renovations. The goal is that by 2030 all new buildings and major renovations be carbon-neutral—generating as much energy as they consume. ■ IRAC | Architecture Canada le principal porte-parole de l’architecture au Canada Fondée en 1907, IRAC est une association nationale à adhésion volontaire. Elle représente plus de 4 600 membres, dont des architectes provenant de toutes les régions du pays, ainsi que des professeurs et des diplômés des écoles d’architecture agréées du Canada. Elle offre le cadre national au développement et à la reconnaissance de l’excellence en architecture. Membres Les effectifs de l’IRAC se composent d’architectes, de diplômés en architecture, de stagiaires et de professeurs à temps plein des écoles universitaires d’architecture. Un architecte qui réside à l’extérieur du Canada peut s’inscrire à titre d’associé international. Celui qui est diplômé de l’étranger et qui réside au Canada peut quant à lui présenter une demande spéciale d’être reconnu à titre de membre à part entière. Un étudiant inscrit à temps plein dans un programme d’architecture d’une école universitaire d’architecture agréée ou dans le programme Syllabus de l’IRAC peut s’inscrire à titre d’étudiant associé. En outre, les personnes physiques ou morales qui oeuvrent dans l’industrie du design et de la construction et qui ont des liens avec le milieu de l’architecture peuvent s’inscrire à titre de membres affiliés. Un Canada plus vert L’IRAC a toujours joué un rôle de chef de file pour ce qui est d’améliorer la durabilité de l’environnement bâti. Il a participé à la création du Conseil du bâtiment durable du Canada; il a élaboré les cours de la série Développement durable des bâtiments au Canada (DDBC), à l’intention des architectes; il a insisté sur l’importance du coût sur le cycle de vie et sur les façons de sensibiliser les propriétaires immobiliers afin qu’ils tiennent compte des coûts d’exploitation et d’entretien à long terme lorsqu’ils prennent des décisions relatives à la conception et à la gestion de leurs immeubles. L’IRAC participe au Défi 2030—une initiative mondiale qui vise dès maintenant la réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre et de la consommation énergétique de tous les nouveaux bâtiments et des bâtiments faisant l’objet de rénovations majeures. L’objectif ultime du Défi est d’assurer la neutralité en carbone de tous ces bâtiments d’ici 2030—c’est-à-dire que tous ces bâtiments produisent autant d’énergie qu’ils en consomment. ■ www.raic.org / 2014 Architecture canada ■ 7
