The funding application was successful and in October Parliamentary Secretary, Lynne Yelich,<br />

announced <strong>of</strong>ficially at a joint press conference that funding for these projects would proceed.<br />

<strong>Canada</strong> Council for the Arts<br />

The RAIC submitted a brief to the <strong>Canada</strong> Council for the Arts during their strategic planning<br />

consultations. Among the suggestions, the RAIC indicated that Architecture was under funded<br />

and not visible in comparison to the other arts.<br />

The RAIC continues to build on its partnership with the CCA for the administration <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.<br />

International Affairs<br />

Federación des Colegios des Arquitectos<br />

de la República Mexicana (FCARM)<br />

The <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Architectural</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> <strong>2007</strong> Annual Report<br />

In November <strong>2007</strong>, the RAIC President Kiyoshi Matsuzaki,<br />

FRAIC and Executive Director, Jon Hobbs,<br />

FRAIC attended the <strong>annual</strong> assembly <strong>of</strong> FCARM in<br />

Chetumal, Mexico. The visit also provided an opportunity<br />

to discuss and plan for the future APEC Meeting in<br />

Vancouver, as the Mexicans now host the Secretariat for<br />

the APEC Architect Project.<br />

Union international des architectes (UIA)<br />

In <strong>2007</strong>, the RAIC was fortunate to have increased participation in the Union international des<br />

architectes (UIA). Paul-André Tétreault, AP/FIRAC represented Region III (the Americas) on<br />

the UIA Council and Bonnie Maples, PP/FRAIC was a member <strong>of</strong> the Joint Oversight Committee<br />

which reviews and monitors the development <strong>of</strong> an international system for continuing pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

development.<br />

American <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Architects (AIA)<br />

The RAIC continued to enjoy strong ties with our sister<br />

association in the United States. The RAIC Executive<br />

regularly attends the AIA Grassroots leadership conference<br />

in mid-February and in <strong>2007</strong> the Executive was<br />

joined by Samuel Oboh, MRAIC, Chair <strong>of</strong> the RAIC<br />

Alberta Chapter at the <strong>annual</strong> AIA Grassroots<br />

Conference.<br />

RAIC President Kiyoshi Matsuzaki, FRAIC looks on as the Governor <strong>of</strong><br />

Quintana Roo, Felix González Canto speaks on the importance <strong>of</strong> architecture<br />

to the development <strong>of</strong> his state (one <strong>of</strong> the most important tourist areas in<br />

the world).<br />
