The funding application was successful and in October Parliamentary Secretary, Lynne Yelich,
announced officially at a joint press conference that funding for these projects would proceed.
Canada Council for the Arts
The RAIC submitted a brief to the Canada Council for the Arts during their strategic planning
consultations. Among the suggestions, the RAIC indicated that Architecture was under funded
and not visible in comparison to the other arts.
The RAIC continues to build on its partnership with the CCA for the administration of the
Governor General’s Medals in Architecture.
International Affairs

de la República Mexicana (FCARM)
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada 2007 Annual Report
In November 2007, the RAIC President Kiyoshi Matsuzaki,
FRAIC and Executive Director, Jon Hobbs,
FRAIC attended the annual assembly of FCARM in
Chetumal, Mexico. The visit also provided an opportunity
to discuss and plan for the future APEC Meeting in
Vancouver, as the Mexicans now host the Secretariat for
the APEC Architect Project.
Union international des architectes (UIA)
In 2007, the RAIC was fortunate to have increased participation in the Union international des
architectes (UIA). Paul-André Tétreault, AP/FIRAC represented Region III (the Americas) on
the UIA Council and Bonnie Maples, PP/FRAIC was a member of the Joint Oversight Committee
which reviews and monitors the development of an international system for continuing professional
development.
American Institute of Architects (AIA)
The RAIC continued to enjoy strong ties with our sister
association in the United States. The RAIC Executive
regularly attends the AIA Grassroots leadership conference
in mid-February and in 2007 the Executive was
joined by Samuel Oboh, MRAIC, Chair of the RAIC
Alberta Chapter at the annual AIA Grassroots
Conference.
RAIC President Kiyoshi Matsuzaki, FRAIC looks on as the Governor of
Quintana Roo, Felix González Canto speaks on the importance of architecture
to the development of his state (one of the most important tourist areas in
the world).
