External Relations The RAIC organizes and funds external relations into two distinct categories: National and International Affairs. National Affairs President Visit to Provincial Associations and CACB In the spring of 2007, RAIC President Kiyoshi Matsuzaki, FRAIC and Executive Director, Jon Hobbs, FRAIC toured the country and met with every provincial association of Architects. Feedback and cooperation was significant, allowing the RAIC to advance several membership and practice support initiatives. The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada 2007 Annual Report Roundtable with Provincial Associations The RAIC hosted and facilitated a roundtable with representatives from all the provinces and territories along with representatives from the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) for day-long discussions on the integration of International Architectural Graduates / Internationally Trained Professionals (IAGs / ITPs) and other national projects. The following actions were agreed to: 1. Implement Automatic Canadian Architectural Certification Board Certification for all Graduates of Accredited Canadian University Schools of Architecture. 2. Update the Canadian Educational Standard. 3. Create a Task Force to develop a mechanism to evaluate experience for Internationally Trained Professionals (ITPs). 4. Prepare an update to the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects (CHOP) in an electronic format. 5. Complete details of a business case and proposal for a national database to record continuing education credits. 6. Provide feedback on revised Document Nine and on the new Guidelines for Architectural Competitions. Report on RAIC Activities 26

Construction industry Consultative Committee (CICC) In August 2007, David Simpson, PP/FRAIC, Ralph Wiesbrock, FRAIC and Jon Hobbs, FRAIC attending the annual CICC meeting – with the senior elected and staff officers of the other organizations that comprise CCDC, namely the Canadian Construction Association (CCA), the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Construction Specifications Canada (CSC). The RAIC was able to get a commitment that once new alternate dispute resolution language is incorporated into RAIC standard contracts then the CCDC will commit to including enabling language in their own documents, beginning with CCDC 2, within six months. RAIC Syllabus Renewal The Interim Program Advisory Committee continues to work diligently on consultation, program development and a transition plan with our institutional partner, Athabasca University, to offer the renewed Syllabus program. (Architecture) • A Post-Diploma Bachelor of Science Program (Architecture) for those with community college diplomas – B.Sc. (Architecture) • A Graduate Diploma in Architecture – Dipl.
