Prix du XX e siècle<br />

In honour <strong>of</strong> its 100th anniversary, the <strong>Royal</strong><br />

<strong>Architectural</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Canada</strong> recognized<br />

five buildings with a new award, the Prix du<br />

XX e siècle.<br />

This award recognizes the enduring excellence<br />

<strong>of</strong> nationally significant architecture, such as<br />

landmark buildings in the historical context <strong>of</strong><br />

Canadian Architecture. The award can be presented<br />

to a building in <strong>Canada</strong>, designed by<br />

an Architect from any country, or a building<br />

anywhere designed by a Canadian Architect.<br />

These landmark buildings and their Architects<br />

were announced in May <strong>2007</strong> during the<br />

OAA/RAIC Conference and Festival <strong>of</strong> Architecture.<br />

The following stand out for their enduring<br />

excellence:<br />

• Smith House 2 in West Vancouver by Arthur Erickson, FRAIC,<br />

Erickson/Massey<br />

• Simon Fraser University also by Arthur Erickson, FRAIC, Erickson/Massey<br />

• Habitat ‘67 designed by Moshe Safdie, FRAIC<br />

• The Toronto Dominion Centre by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, with John B.<br />

Parkin Associates, Bregman & Hamann Architects and Scott Associates<br />

National Urban Design Awards<br />

In the fall <strong>of</strong> <strong>2007</strong>, the RAIC issued a Call for Submissions for the National Urban Design Awards.<br />

The Awards will be adjudicated in early 2008.<br />

The RAIC would like to thank the Awards Committee, Paul-André Tétreault, AP/FIRAC, Larry<br />

Jones, FRAIC, Brigitte Shim, FRAIC, Terence Williams, PP/FRAIC and Donald Schmitt, FRAIC<br />

who was replaced by Yves Gosselin AP/FIRAC in September <strong>2007</strong>.<br />

President’s Award in <strong>Architectural</strong> Journalism<br />

This new award will be <strong>of</strong>fered <strong>annual</strong>ly and will recognize a unique story, article or radio or television<br />

piece for its contribution to the wide-spread dissemination <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architectural</strong> values and ideas.<br />
