Hampton Head
RCBC will enter two senior eights, one J16 eight and two “matched” J15 eights
at the Hampton Head this Saturday 9 th February. The crews will all race in
Division 2 which starts at 2:00pm. There is a chance that the event will not go
ahead due to the high river levels, but we will keep you informed if this is the
case.
STOP PRESS
We have just been informed that the Hampton Head scheduled for this
Saturday has had to be cancelled due to the high river levels.
Wycliffe Big Head Report
It was a relief to get to Wycliffe and to be greeted by sunny weather and
relatively calm water. Despite having very little opportunity to prepare
on the water (for almost all the crews it was their first outing in these
combinations) the crews achieved some encouraging results.
The 1 st VIII finished second overall in Division 1, just 11 seconds behind
King’s Chester the winners. In Division 2 the 1 st finished in 4 th place, 17
seconds behind the winners, Shrewsbury. The 2 nd VIII finished in 6 th
place in the J18 division. The J16 IV finished 2 nd in their division and all
three J15 eights acquitted themselves well considering that it was only
the second time they had been in a boat this term. The Radley results
were as follows:

Event Time Category Position
J18 Eights (1 st VIII) 15:48 2
J18 Eights (2 nd VIII) 17:15 6
J15 Eights 18:06 5
J15 Eights 18:28 7
J15 Eights 20:52 10
J16 Coxed Four 19:27 2
IM2 Eights (1 st VIII) 15:30 4
J16 Eights 17:37 4
Novice Fours 18:20
Inter-Social Ergo
The Inter-Social Ergo Competition took place last Thursday evening and
once again the Barker Gym resounded to the passionate shouts of
encouragement from the big crowd of supporters who came to
encourage their teams in what has been described as “man vs machine
mechanical mayhem”. Congratulations to F-Social on their overall
victory and a big thank-you to Christian Felkel, coach of the GB Men’s
Olympic Eight and Pair who came along to present the trophy and
medals to the winning team.
1st - F Social (3393 metres)
2nd - J Social (3316 metres)
3rd - B Social (3282 metres)
4th - G Social (3273 metres)

Radley Mariners Lunch at the Schools’ Head
7 th March 2013
Last year approximately 65 parents and supporters attended a buffet in the private
rooms on the first floor of the Old Ship pub before the Schools’ Head of the River
Race. The large balcony afforded us an uninterrupted view of some close quarter
racing from Chiswick Eyot to Hammersmith Bridge and the opportunity to shout for
each Radley crew as it hit the halfway mark was taken with gusto!
The Radley Mariners have organised a similar event for this year’s race on 7 th
March.
The race itself starts at 1.00pm. The Radley Mariners Boat Club is arranging an
informal buffet lunch for guests from midday. There is a dedicated bar for the use of
our party and guests are free to come and go as they please.
Supporters may wish to allow 15 minutes to walk to Hammersmith Bridge to watch
the race although you are welcome to stay and view it from the balcony.
There will be an opportunity to join the Mariners as an associate member (£48 per
year by standing Order). For those joining or already Members, there is no charge
for the lunch. Regrettably, funding requirements mean that non-members will need
to pay £10 per head to help us cover the cost of room hire and the food.
We would love as many supporters as possible to join us. We have enough space for
up approximately 70 people, so, for catering and logistical purposes I would be
grateful if you would confirm your attendance to me by email on the following
address by February 28th:
sshaw@savills.com
Non-members should confirm that they either wish to become members or will pay
the £10pp charge on the day. When confirming please let me know, where relevant,
the name of the boy(s) you are supporting and his (their) age group (ie 2 nd year
senior, 1 st year senior, J16 and J15 respectively). Please also confirm the names of all
guests intending to come.
In the event that we are oversubscribed, priority will be given to parents of 2 nd year
seniors, 1 st year seniors, J16 oarsmen, Mariners supporting a boy in one of those
crews, J15 parents and other Mariners, in that order and by date of response. In this
event, I will email everyone affected.
