In 2009, a new word was born - ‘staycation’ -
a description of the stay-at-home-holiday phenomenon
which looks set to continue into Summer 2010. The
advanced bookings at The Camping and Caravanning Club
seem to bear that out. Among the sites with the largest
increases in advanced bookings for 2010 are Keswick and
Derwentwater Club Sites.
The higher number of people staying in the UK last year
meant a boost for Club Membership – a total of 65,000 new
members in 2009. Over half of those recruited were families
with young children. To encourage these camping newbies,
The Camping and Caravanning Club launched its New to
Camping Campaign. The success of the campaign – and the
continuing "staycation" trend – will see the New to Camping
initiative continue throughout 2010. Aimed at novice (and
rusty!) campers, the idea is to make buying a tent, caravan
or motorhome and setting off into the great outdoors as
easy as 1-2-3.
