The endarterectomy dissection plane is developed just at<br />
the level of maximum disease. Once the plane has been<br />
developed to the depth of the artery, a special sharply curved<br />
clamp is used to continue the dissection to the opposite side<br />
of the arteriotomy. The Wylie Carotid Dissecting Clamp was<br />
designed for this purpose and may be preferred to a standard<br />
right angle clamp.<br />
