Handling the exam prior to administering it
1. The exam will arrive by mail in a packet addressed to the “Proctor” of the exam.
2. Please ensure that the student doesn’t see the exam prior to its administration.
Exam Day Preparations:
Everyone must take the exam on the same day: Monday, March 11, 2013
Take the exam early in the day and mail the answer sheet the same day.
This is a National Latin Exam requirement.
The student must NOT have access to reference materials. The exam is strictly “closedbook”
and the integrity of the student, the proctor, and The Lukeion Project is at stake.
Once the exam begins, the proctor must remain in the room while the student takes the
exam, and must certify that the student has taken the exam fairly (sign and return the
“Proctor Statement” included at the end of this document)
The proctor must ensure that the time limit is strictly observed. The proctor may
inform the student when 5 minutes remain, if he/she so chooses.
1. Checklist prior to beginning:
The proctor should have the packet addressed to him/her
The proctor should have an accurate time piece for timing the exam
The proctor should have this instruction sheet printed out
The student MUST have several #2 pencils for filling out the answer sheet
The student should have an eraser that allows him/her to completely erase any answers
that he/she wishes to change
2. Open the packet. Inside you’ll find:
One copy of the quiz per student
One student answer sheet per student
A stiff piece of card-stock to prevent bending; please retain this and include it when
returning the test materials to The Lukeion Project
A return envelope (postage is not included)
Instructions for Administering the Exam:
1. Give the student the answer sheet – do NOT distribute the exam sheet at this time.
Read through the green shaded area on the answer sheet labeled “Marking
Instructions:” and ensure that the student understands how to mark the exam
2. Fill In the Student and School Information – Lead the student through the process of filling
out this information accurately before beginning the timed portion of the exam:
and fill in the corresponding bubbles below each number
Print your name in the boxes provided, last name first, with a space between your last
bubbles below each letter of your name
Write BARR in the first four boxes under “Teacher’s Name” and fill in the
corresponding bubbles below each letter of the name
3. Administer the Timed Portion of the Exam – When you are confident that the information
Give the student the exam and have them check the top of page 1 to ensure that they
must be returned to The Lukeion Project
Returning the exam:
1. Mail the answer sheet back and the exam to The Lukeion Project ON THE DAY THAT YOU
TAKE THE EXAM. If your exam does not arrive in time to be included in the package to the
grading service, it will be invalidated and will not be graded.
2. Your packed included a pre-addressed envelope for returning your materials to The Lukeion
Project. Include the following items in your return envelope:
The student’s answer sheet
The exam
The stiff card-stock sheet that came in your original packet (to prevent bending)
The signed “Proctor Statement” (last page of this document) confirming that the
student abided by all rules while taking the exam
3. Ship your package using a method that guarantees that it will arrive at The Lukeion
Project by Thursday, March 14. We highly recommend expedited service – do NOT leave
this to chance.
