THE SNOW hasn't
yet begun to fall in any
serious way, but already
people are starring to sign
up their kids for crosscountry
ski lessons at
Hallis Lake.
Elaine Watteyne said
this week that over 50
children have already
signed up for the Jackrabbit
ski course at the popular
wintertime ski spot.
That's pretty good,
she noted, considering
that the trails remain bare
and dry.
"We usually get between
60 and 80 kids
signing up, but tfie snow
hasn't arrived and people
aren't really thinking
about skiing too much
yet." she said. "We're
confident that we should
have lots of snow by the
first week of December,
when the courses start."
The B.C. Rabbit program
for children ages six
to 12 years is considered a
flagship of cross country
ski programs for youth in
the province.
This successful, community-based
program
has been offered through
ski schools, cross country
Baine Watteyne
ski clubs and recreation
centres throughout the
province since 1981.
Through it, literally thousands
of young British
Columbians have been introduced
to cross country
skiing through their participation
in the program.
Parents who are interested
in having their
children participate in the
program this year can attend
a special parent
meeting . on November
25th at 2 p.m. to meet
with coaches and take
part in a waxing clinic.
