Yesterday - Helps us develop a better tomorrow… 

Before the name ‘quadral’, we were 

the ‘all Group’. Formed in Hannover, 

Germany by H.D. Hoffmann, H. 

Pabel, H. Enders and F. Hofmann, in 

1972. From the start, the company 

was operated as two distinct divisions: 

‘all electronic’ - concentrating 

on industrial production and 

investment, and ‘all akustik’ - focusing 

on the import and marketing 

of entertainment electronics. 

We are very proud of our roots, where we’ve come from and 

what we’ve achieved so far, but we’re not stopping there. We 

take with us what we’ve learnt from our past and combine 

these attributes with new technologies and principles, pushing 

the envelope even further forwards with engineering and 

design solutions for today’s HiFi and Home Cinema lover. 

What we learnt yesterday only helps us develop a better tomorrow. 

Our loudspeaker story begins in the early 1980’s 

The ‘all akustik’ division planned to establish its own brand 

of loudspeaker in the marketplace - quadral. This it did, and 

within just a few years, the quadral brand became synonymous 

with top-quality loudspeakers across Germany. In 1981, 

a giant loudspeaker was conceived by Helmut Schaper, who 

helped produce the ‘TITAN MKI’.

known German engineering facility at the time. The TITAN MKI 

was a true reference speaker like nothing else of its time for 

performance, design, engineering and price. 

TITAN – the flagship speaker 

From the very first TITAN MKI in 1981, and over the decades 

as we’ve updated and re-engineered it as we’ve seen fit, the 

TITAN has continued to lead the field. It has seen pretenders 

and contenders come and go, but, it has remained sure and 

steadfast true to what it stands for. 

It didn’t take too long either for this reference class speaker 

and its abilities to travel. The TITAN, continuously well reputed 

by German hi-fi magazines for several decades; struck a chord 

or two as we expanded into other countries with the respective 

world press also recognising the values and uniqueness of 

such a fine speaker. 

Over the years, the voluminous transmission line principle has 

given way to a more subtle and sleeker design - no less powerful 

- through bass reflex / pressure chamber principles ensuring 

formidable control and bass reproduction. Larger mem-

Direct descendants 

The innovative strengths of the TITAN naturally made way for 

other models. Passing the core philosophy and inspirational 

traits from the TITAN directly to new, smaller models meant a 

whole family was conceived to include the WOTAN, MONTAN 

and VULKAN – names which we still use today and which still 

have an air of magic, intrigue and mastery about them. 

The unique concept led to the Industrial Design Award (IF) for 

the VULKAN MKI in 1982. 

In the 1990’s came new technology 

In 1998 to be exact, quadral’s Chief Developer, Berndt Stark 

took new principles, new technologies and materials to set new 

trends. Whilst many of us were preparing for the new Millennium, 

quadral was readying itself for a new era in engineering 

design. No Millennium bug here! 

Pressure chambers were introduced. A new speaker membrane 

was developed - a perfected composite of three light metals 

(aluminium, titanium and magnesium), was specially developed 

to achieve optimal vibratory characteristics. This composite 

material has been internationally registered for quadral’s sole 

use and is a very important part of the current AURUM speaker 

range. (We call this speaker membrane ‘ALTIMA ©’ from the three

materials it is derived from). Stark also preferred a new type 

of tweeter - a ring transducer technology (in short ‘RiCom’). A 

tweeter with lots of talents: ultra-light membrane with broad 

emission characteristics, high resolution and a huge frequency 

response band width. A successor to this first generation RiCom 

tweeter is still used in quadral’s current speaker range, both in 

the PLATINUM M and SIGNO AVANTGARDE. 

Defining true audio 

Berndt Stark’s concepts have been rewarded with countless 

test awards both in Germany and internationally. Since then, 

our loudspeakers always take quadral's traditional virtues; that 

of tonal neutrality, a balance and richness of detail, clarity and 

control and combine them with timeless and modern design 

principles that allow ease of placement in the home, harmony 

with all types of music and music systems, and a joy to own. 

True audio isn’t achieved with trickery, with imbalances and with 

one particular facet out-shining another in a bid to compensate 

for its failings. This isn’t proper engineering and design. 

At quadral, all our effort, our passion and know-how is poured 

into producing the very best loudspeakers and electronics without 

a single compromise. These values run deep, meaning that 

every quadral product, in our eyes and to our ears, emulates the 

definition of true audio. We are not inspired or motivated by 

mass production, and to us, we feel that says it all. 

Our legendary German engineering can be seen throughout our 

flagship range, ‘AURUM’, crowned by the current edition of the 

TITAN. 

Reasons to celebrate 

At quadral we really do champion the ribbon tweeter in our flagship 

AURUM range. It’s a celebrated technology, at least from 

our perspective as it helped establish the TITAN MKI as a formidable 

speaker; and, now in the 8th generation of the AURUM

From 1981 to 2011, where we celebrated 30 years of success 

with the latest TITAN VIII in Munich, to the present day where 

we have our own brand of 100% made in Germany, high-end 

electronics components too. This, our ‘AURUM Electronic’ range, 

consists of award-winning integrated amplifiers, CD players 

(launched in 2011), and more recently a power amp and preamp. 

We are, quite simply, fanatical about HiFi and home cinema… 

just look at our 2013 AURUM BASE TITAN – quite possibly one of 

the largest super-centre channel home cinema speakers on the 

market, with roots of the TITAN VIII, this centre channel speaker 

is the perfect complement for a reference class home cinema 

set-up.

Why we do what we do 

The major works from such celebrated German musicians such as 

Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Richard Wagner, 

to name just a few, owe their popularity and longevity spanning 

centuries to sheer musical excellence. 

With the ability and technology to record and listen again to these 

and many other recordings, music styles and movie soundtracks, 

quadral’s aim is always to produce speakers that give the listener 

a realistic and life-like experience, but from the comfort of a living 

room. Our joy comes from your enjoyment. 

Titanic challenges 

For speakers to be orientated to the richness of classical music yet 

still be able to reproduce modern, popular music without fault; and 

lets not forget demanding film soundtracks and scores too, many a 

titanic challenge needs to be overcome; for this very simple reason, 

our AURUM series topping TITAN was given its name. 

HISTORY 

Sound requirements 

Our speakers therefore had to be able to realistically reproduce effortlessly 

the airiness and lightness of a recording, whilst also being 

able to demonstrate the tremendous vigour of a huge pipe organ, 

the tender inflections of a violin, a piano’s astounding dynamics and 

the completely diverse acoustic colours of singing voices as well as 

the extraordinary diversity and power of a large orchestra ranging 

from the lowest to the highest tones.

Visual attraction 

A quadral speaker doesn’t just stop with an ability of sounding fabulous, 

the build and finish is exemplary too. Our solidly constructed 

housing of linear elegance has been designed to last a lifetime, using 

premium materials that are, without question, of the highest calibre. 

We’re in-tune with the fact that our acoustic masterpieces are unlikely 

to be playing music continuously, instead for many, they will 

be items on ‘permanent show’, placed in the lounge or similar open 

space and always visible. This is why we strive to design our speakers 

so that they are both ageless and elegant and are visually appealing 

in any home environment. Sleek, classic and modern housings fuse 

with clean, clear lines and exemplary craftsmanship, with real wood 

veneers to rich piano gloss, high gloss lacquer and custom paint finishes.

HiFi or Home Cinema 

When taking a look through our products, you’ll note that each full 

range of speakers is complemented by a purpose built centre channel 

speaker and complementing subwoofer. We don’t believe a home 

cinema experience should be any less than that of a HiFi quality 

experience, if home cinema is what you’re looking for. Therefore - no 

compromise are the two words we live by. If you intend on using a 

quadral system for your home cinema, we’ve ensured you’ll have the 

very best dialogue reproduction of rousing films through our centre 

channel speakers, matched perfectly to front and rear speakers and 

a stirring subwoofer.

Since 1981 quadral’s TITAN and the AURUM range has been awarded 

numerous benchmarks by professional testers and reviewers. 

Other speakers and their descendants have often tried to emulate 

the benchmarks we’ve set. Each generation of our speaker has been

of the first TITAN, right up to today, we at quadral firmly believe 

that we manufacture speakers with the highest musical quality and 

craftsmanship within their price class, or put another way, premium

Vulkan is the German word for a volcano, and brings to mind 

excitement, verve, fire and blazing heat. Experience the AURUM 

VULKAN at its very best, deploying its impulsive vigour to generate 

veritable aural pyrotechnics. In spite of its enormous music-handling 

capacity, this 250/400 W speaker has an incredibly finely developed

Instrument Making 

There is one very big difference between acoustic instruments 

and loudspeakers, namely that the best of the former pamper 

our hearing with the most beautiful natural resonances while 

the best of the latter do so with the smallest possible degree 

of these. The source of this natural resonance is frequently the 

wood itself as it vibrates in its own individual manner. 

However, instead of building speaker cabinets from centimetrethick 

concrete or simply ignoring the intrinsic characteristics of 

wood in terms of resonance, we have simply done things in our 

own way, intensively examining and subsequently optimising 

the vibratory behaviour of the AURUM’s cabinet walls. When 

this has been completed, our craftsmen then put together the 

cabinet in this perfected form.

The ALTIMA® Diaphragms 

The loudspeakers in the AURUM range never fail to impress with 

their innovative power. ALTIMA® is a perfected composite of the 

three light metals aluminium, titanium and magnesium, specially 

developed to achieve optimal vibratory characteristics. The 

main reason behind the differences in the way that diverse materials 

sound lies in the fact that vibrating diaphragms bend uncontrollably 

and do not then follow the parameters of the voice 

coil. The extent of these so-called “partial vibrations” largely determines 

the intrinsic sound produced by a diaphragm. Against 

this background the loud-speaker manufacturers endeavour to 

suppress material-induced resonances as effectively as possible, 

distributing them over various frequencies in order to conceal 

them to the greatest possible extent. ALTIMA®, in contrast, 

opens up completely new possibilities: on the one hand, it enables 

the forcing out of material resonances from where they are 

taking place in the speaker and, on the other hand, it enables 

the resonances to be gathered and then eliminated via network. 

This sounds like a simple enough process but it is hardly possible 

with other materials, so the characteristics that set our cone 

diaphragms apart from the rest are speed, meticulous precision 

and the absence of undesired resonances. 

The AURUM Ribbon Tweeter 

The ribbon tweeters, which were specially developed for quadral's 

AURUM speakers, work at the top models TITAN, VULKAN, 

BASE TITAN and BASE PRESTIGE with a real aluminium ribbon, 

all other AURUM models use a magnetostatic ribbon. We favour 

using ribbon tweeters, as they produce the best ratio between 

power and size and we also use very valuable and powerful neodymium 

magnets to drive the feather-light foil. This enables the 

signal to pass through the gossamer membrane in an effortless 

process (see Fig. 1). The whole surface area is driven here, unlike 

a conventional dome (see Fig. 2) that only uses the outer edge, 

as using the entire driven area prevents any partial oscillations 

from occurring. The oblong styling of the sound outlet also improves 

the sound dispersion characteristics and very wide sound 

emission can be realised horizontally and this also effectively 

prevents the severe bundling of unwanted reflections from the 

ceiling and the floor that occurs in the vertical axis. 

The TITAN’s exceptional status is the result of numerous technical 

innovations and optimisations. The ribbon-tweeter has been 

completely re-developed according to the principles used in a 

real ribbon speaker: Its gossamer and feather-like membrane is 

in close contact with two hugely powerful neodymium magnetic 

blocks. The membrane is somewhat finer as compared 

to its predecessor yet it can clearly handle greater ranges and 

it is so effectively damped at the rear that this ribbon speaker 

reproduces astounding music and the finest tone details with 

phenomenal ease! 

Three different types of ribbons are used by quadral's AURUM. 

The membrane surface area of the big MONTAN ribbon is four 

times bigger when compared to the smaller ribbons, which are 

also ideally suited for reproducing music, and this enables the 

AURUM ribbon tweeters to work at a full octave deeper (from 2 

KHZ) and generate 10 dB more maximum pressure, which means 

that they can play at double the previous sound level. 

In summing up, it can be seen that ribbon tweeters also produce 

dazzling detail that is also clear and velvety at low volumes and 

they also easily outperform conventional domes due to the conventional 

dome’s inherent mechanical resistance.

The relays are virtually wear-free and have an extraordinarily 

long life. 

P8 special features: 

• A particularly sensitive stage for high resolution music reproduction 

in the AURUM P8 is the digital module controller. 

The phase-locked loop (PLL) controls the interaction of 

the digital inputs and the transducer. Each of these stages is 

controlled by a controller that has been developed by ourselves. 

A sophisticated system using a fine passive filter decouples 

the digital modules from each other.

Electronic 

• For the input stage, AURUM developers use BI-FET operational 

amplifiers, making AURUM amplifiers especially low 

in noise and distortion. They also transmit a very broad frequency 

response. The result is a significant increase in music 

reproduction dynamics. 

• AURUM amplifiers are equipped with studio-quality volume 

control switching, which makes for precise logarithmic volume 

setting capabilities. This guarantees that the right and 

left channels are set to exactly the same volume. Compared 

to previous technology, this sophisticated technology has 

the advantage of greater dynamics when playing music. 

• For the signal paths, our engineers exclusively use premium, 

German-made polypropylene film capacitors, no lossy electrolytic 

capacitors. This type of signal transmission very effectively 

minimizes distortion. 

• Even the initial design phase, special attention was paid to 

especially short signal paths. SMD technology, an innovative 

technology for developing and producing printed circuit 

boards, guarantees that the signal is transferred with the 

least possible interference or loss. 

• Long cable paths place the highest demands on today’s 

preamplifiers. This is the reason why the AURUM P8 has 

been equipped with a parallel, symmetrical 4-way output 

stage. 

• The P8’s integrated top quality phono-amplifier equalizes as 

per RIAA with accuracy better than 0.2dB. Input signals 

from MC and MM pickup systems are processed by the

preamplifier using low noise audio operation amplifiers 

from analog devices. 

• The integrated Burr/Brown D/A converter, which works at 

192 kHz/24-bit, enables modern data storage devices to be 

combined with the AURUM preamplifier. The connection 

can be set up using optical or co-axial inputs. 

• A Bessel-filter has been integrated to ensure optimum pulse 

transfers in order to keep the AURUM P8’s sound quality at 

the highest level. 

• A by-pass input enables the AURUM preamplifier to be optimally 

combined with a home cinema / theater receiver. 

AURUM M8, A5 und A3 

Amplifier technology: 

• A completely discrete output stage design makes for virtually 

perfect music reproduction. This demanding but effective 

type of power amplification also offers reproduction 

with an especially broad frequency response. 

• Power transistors from a renowned manufacturer, delivering 

more than 200 watts, ensure high impulse with clean music 

reproduction. In addition, these are extraordinarily long-life 

transistors. 

• The broader a band an amplifier works with, the more captivating 

its sound characteristics. Unfortunately, many manufacturers 

avoid broadband music reproduction, because radiation 

and vibration make these devices very interference 

prone. A specially developed passive output filter with a 

unique hand-wound coil decouples the speaker from the 

output stage, thus allowing the AURUM amplifier to operate 

in broadband without interference. 

• Previous speaker relays had a natural tendency to wear, 

which usually led to the speaker channels losing volume or 

even failing over time. AURUM engineers use a vacuumwelded 

output relay with a special alloy that prevents this 

from happening. 

M8 special features: 

• The AURUM M8 engineers have used their tremendous expertise 

to develop a new main transformer with especially 

low dispersion that uses special winding technology. A 

wide-band mains filter eliminates any symmetric or asymmetric 

problems and this ensures a perfect power supply. 

Real dual mono-layouts on the secondary side of the transformer 

prevent any crosstalk between the channels. Two low 

impedance mains supplies ensure that ample power reserves 

are available as well as the high dynamics needed for the 

reproduction of music. The separated channels remain stable 

even when they are working under high loads and they 

can also be driven independently of each other. 

• Relays are used to switch the AURUM amplifier between 

stereo and mono modes and this means that the system is 

virtually loss-free and the newly developed circuitry is automatically 

matched to the operating voltage. The M8 is 

therefore capable of driving power-hungry and impedance 

critical speakers. This know-how is also used if the speaker 

Groups A and B have to be driven together. 

• The AURUM development team have used relays that only 

have hard gold plated contacts for switching between the 

signal sources. If the XLR input is activated then the RCA 

signal is shut off automatically and this effectively prevents 

any problems being caused by crosstalk. 

• In order to be able to realise short signal paths and high accuracy 

during the signal matching, the engineering team 

has used professional signal relays with gold plated contacts 

in this stage as well. 

• The heat produced inside the unit is quickly dissipated 

thanks to the use of high-temperature insulating foil. This 

increases the thermal reserves and the service life of the 

output transistors. 

• Symmetric signal processing has decisive advantages for the 

amplifier’s sound. A ‘+’ and a ‘–’ conductor as well as a separate 

earth conductor are available for use as the signal path. 

The M8 has been developed so that input signals from nonsymmetric 

sources can also be converted in the unit and 

then processed symmetrically. 

AURUM P8/M8, A5 und A3 

Power supply technology: 

• The AURUM Standby eco-adapter consumes less than 0.9 

watts of power. 

• The transformers have been developed especially for AU- 

RUM Electronic. They use innovative spot welding technology 

and minimize the power adapter’s electromagnetic 

field. This allows the output stages to operate trouble-free, 

and all AURUM amplifiers of the same series have the same 

fascinating sound. 

• Symmetric disturbances are in every power grid, and asymmetric 

disturbances through a device’s housing or mass 

negatively influence an amplifier’s acoustic behaviour. However, 

these are eliminated by broadband power filters, guaranteeing 

the greatest possible music enjoyment. Another 

special filter prevents annoying hum from the toroidal 

transformer. 

• Discretely designed rectifiers with 200A ultra-fast recovery 

Schottky diodes guarantee the amplifier’s interference-free 

operation. 

• Five separate electrolytic charging capacitors per channel 

with a specially developed circuit ensure fast power delivery. 

This means that AURUM amplifiers play effortlessly even 

with fast and high impulses. 

M8 special features:

Protection circuit technology: 

• In AURUM amplifiers, the protective circuits are not in the 

signal path, which distinguishes them from many competitors. 

This principle makes sure the sound is not influenced by 

the protective circuits. 

• Ordinary protective circuits limit the current flow early, 

which leads to bad sound, because the amplifiers have low 

energy reserve. A dynamic protective circuit developed for 

AURUM amplifier protects the power amplifier. Thus the 

three various output sizes are continuously measured and 

matched to one another. This protective circuit allows the 

amplifier to work with higher current flows. That leads to 

dynamic sound with true detail. Additionally, several sensors 

measure the temperature and switch the device off during 

overheating and secure it against switching back on. A further 

protective DC circuit prevent your loudspeaker from 

malfunction caused by d.c. voltage at the output stage. 

A5 special features: 

• The development engineers have created the AURUM A5 as 

a true dual mono construction. That means that each channel 

has its own power supply, its own signal processing, and 

its own signal amplification. Therefore the channels can operate 

interference-free and independently of each other. 

The increased power, dynamics and energy reserves pay off 

in stable, high-resolution sound. 

• For a strong power supply, the A5 is designed with two separately 

operating, low-leakage main power adapters, transformers 

and rectifier lines. 

• For the sensitive input stage, we use low-noise audio operational 

amplifiers from Analogue Devices. 

• Besides optimal signal transmission, the A5 offers the benefits 

of balanced input (XLR). This process allows signal 

transmission with an earth conductor that carries no signal 

flows.

Power supply technology: 

• AURUM CD players are designed with a technically complex 

passive secondary filter. This separates the analogue band 

from the digital band, so that the two bands don’t influence 

each other. The result is significant sound improvement versus 

conventionally designed units. 

• The AURUM Standby eco-adapter consumes less than 0.5 

watts of power. 

• The transformers have been developed especially for AU- 

RUM Electronic. They use innovative spot welding technology 

and minimize the power adapter’s electromagnetic 

field. This allows the Equipment to operate trouble-free, and 

all AURUM CD players of the same series have the same fascinating 

sound. 

• Symmetric disturbances are in every power grid, and asymmetric 

disturbances through a device’s housing or mass 

negatively influence an amplifier’s acoustic behaviour. However, 

these are eliminated by a broadband power filter, guaranteeing 

the greatest possible music enjoyment. Another 

special filter prevents annoying hum from the toroidal 

transformer. 

C5 DA special features: 

• The AURUM development department has endowed the AU- 

RUM C5 DA with separate power adapters for standby, digital 

and analogue supply. This technically very clean process 

detaches the individual sections and provides the device 

with the highest level of trouble-free operation. 

• And again, to increase the CD unit’s precision, the C5 DA 

additionally works with a master clock generator. This makes 

it stand out from other CD players of its class, and has the 

desired results of improved sound and temperature stability. 

What’s more, the use of a re-clocking design for all relevant 

stages of the C5 DA leads to the highest possible timing 

precision. 

• The discretely designed CLASS A output stages make for 

warm, almost distortion-free sound. 

• Besides for optimal signal transmission, the C5 DA offers the 

benefits of balanced output (XLR). This process allows signal 

transmission with an earth conductor that bears no signal 

flows. 

• The CD drive is supported on vibration dampers, which prevents 

ambient vibration from transferring to the drive. Also, 

the drive’s laser unit is equipped with special vibration protection. 

• The outstanding converter of the new C5 DA is now able to 

be used as external D/A-converter as well. 

• For the AURUM C3 and C5 DA, particularly quiet drive motors 

are used.

Aluminium-Cones 

The new aluminium membranes installed in the PLATINUM M 

are very close to quadral’s extremely successful ALTIMA® membranes. 

We have started to use aluminium with a somewhat 

higher proportion of magnesium, so that the membranes are 

more rigid and this ensures that their surfaces have a higher 

compressive strength. This process also alters the frequency 

range, but we have corrected this by making minor modifications 

to the shape of the membrane and the dust cap used in 

your music centre. 

The recently developed 14 cm low/mid-range membrane used 

in the Platinum series combines reduced distortion and linearity 

at the highest level. 

The extremely rigid and lightweight aluminium membrane ensures 

that exceptional linearity and a non-resonating frequency 

range can be realised when used in conjunction with a frequency 

separator and it does not produce any dampening in 

the crossover ranges.

RiCom V-Tweeter 

The accompanying graphic illustration shows you the new Ri- 

Com V’s perfect frequency range with frequency separation in 

M40 (green-coloured comparison: no frequency separation). 

The frequency separator used with the tweeter ensures that the 

high peaks generated around 2K Hz are drastically reduced over 

this range and this results in considerably less thermal loading 

and it also guarantees high reliability and less sound distortion 

at different listening volumes. 

Biwiring-Terminal 

Loudspeakers with a biwiring terminal are equipped with two 

separable signal inputs. It is therefore possible to control the 

tweeter and woofer separately: either with two different cables 

(biwiring) or, which is better for the sound, with two different 

amplifiers (biamping). In this way, you can achieve maximum 

performance from your loudspeakers. This because some amplifiers 

and cables are particularly well suited for higher frequencies,

Tweeters with feather-light ribbon membranes are a 

solid tradition at quadral. With the CHROMIUM series' 

newly developed ribbon, the membrane also takes on 

the job of the voice coil. The signals from the amplifier

speakers from Quadral. The elegant, high-gloss finished housings,

The quadral ribbon tweeter. 

The ribbon tweeter, which has been especially developed 

by quadral for use in the CHROMIUM STYLE series, uses the 

magnetostatic principle. This 

tweeter enjoys the advantage 

of having the best ratio between 

power and size, as very powerful 

neodymium magnets are used to 

drive the feather-light foil and 

these are fitted in the immediate 

vicinity of the membrane and its 

metallised conductors. This enables 

the signal to pass through 

the gossamer membrane virtually 

effortlessly, (see Ill. 2), and partial-oscillations 

cannot build up 

as practically the entire surface area of the thin foil is driven 

here as opposed to conventional domes, (see Ill. 3), which 

are only driven at the outer edges and the high frequencies 

that are used cause them to resonate in the centre. The 

oblong styling of the sound outlet also improves the sound 

dispersion characteristics and very wide sound emission can 

be realised horizontally and this also effectively prevents the 

severe bundling of unwanted reflections from the ceiling and 

the floor that occurs in the vertical axis.

The characteristics of the quadral magnetostats, which are virtually 

free of partial-oscillations (i.e. resonance-free), are clearly 

shown in this illustration. The strong resonance produced by a top 

quality ceramic dome tweeter is also shown here. This resonance 

still remains visible at 1 mm, even though it is less dramatic. This 

causes negative acoustic feedback in the lower high tone ranges.

PHASE 15 

A 5.1 set cannot be positioned optimally in many lounges or even 

home-cinemas, as it needs to emit sound directly into the area behind 

it. In order to produce a really good feeling of space under 

these circumstances and without having to directly position one 

of the speakers, you ideally need a diffused sound source such as a 

quadral PHASE 15 and the flip switch mounted on the back enables 

the speaker to be used as a bipolar, dipolar or even a completely 

normal speaker. The dipolar setting should be used in small rooms, 

as the two tweeters work in opposite phases here and this process 

ensures that a diffused acoustic pattern is generated. The two 

tweeters work as a phase-matched pair in bipolar mode and the 

PHASE 15 works as a direct sound emitter using only one tweeter 

when switched to the ‘normal’ setting.

The frequency separating fi lter is two-part so that the individual 

pathways do not infl uence each other. The middle high 

frequency branch sits in a chamber which is acoustically insulated 

from the interior volume of the loudspeaker so that any 

ex tube 

and all possible pick-up effects are excluded. The high quality 

interior cabling with Real Cable reduces the skin effect and 

minimises ohmic and inductive losses. In this way the sound 

remains open to the maximum, and free without any compression 

effects. The design of the overall frequency separat-

phase shifting, produces a very amplifi er-friendly loudspeaker
