This Certification course provides all of the<br />

requirements for health care provider &<br />

professional rescuer, which includes adult,<br />

child, infant CPR, rescue breathing, and use of<br />

AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). AHA<br />

requires "pass" grade on skills exam & minimum<br />

of 85 score on written exam to qualify<br />

for certification. Dress comfortably. Required<br />

Textbook to be read prior to class: American<br />

Heart Association: BLS for Healthcare Providers<br />

(latest edition with new 2010 protocols),<br />

available at the QCC Bookstore.<br />

Note: Students should take Basic (AHX-100)<br />

if more than one year since certification.<br />

EMT Certification: Basic Course<br />

Required Textbook: Brady Emergency Care, 12th<br />

Edition, available at the QCC Bookstore.<br />

MMR immunization proof required at first class.<br />

Prerequisite: CPR Certification mandatory, previous<br />

first aid training highly recommended, minimum<br />

12th grade reading level for intense reading and<br />

exam workload, and pass practical skills & complete<br />

clinical rotation on ambulance for certification.<br />

This course covers all techniques and operational<br />

aspects of an EMT. Demonstration,<br />

practice, and clinical observation are integrated<br />

with free online FEMA classes. To take<br />

the NYS exam and become certified, registrants<br />

must be 18, fluent in English, and not<br />

physically disabled. Bring to 1st class card<br />

certifying current CPR and standard First Aid<br />

or CFR credentials.<br />

EMT Refresher Challenge Recertification<br />

Provides testing, evaluation, and necessary retraining for EMTs needing recertification. Test<br />

cognition of emergency medical care and performance. Challenge-based format with multiple<br />

mandatory sessions to meet updated NYS curriculum.<br />

Enrollment based on successful outcomes of pre-test given at first class.<br />
