4Academic Preparatory & Enrichment for Elementary Grades K-5<br />

All Classes held for 10 sessions on Saturday September 21-December 7 (skip 11/9, 30)<br />

Curriculum will be according to each grade.<br />

Please note class grades may be combined without affecting<br />

the integrity of learning achievement of each individual<br />

Test Prep English Language Arts Mathematics<br />

EARLY ELEMENTARY Preparation<br />

Reading & Mathematics (Kindergarten)<br />

Young students will engage in a variety of activities designed to develop and enhance their<br />

skills in language arts and mathematics.<br />

CLX-131 SA 10 sessions (10 hours) / $175 / 9-10am<br />

KinderArt (Pre-K and Kindergarten)<br />

Young students will get crafty with art media: including drawing, sketching, and painting.<br />

CLX-113 SA 10 sessions (12.5 hours) / $190 / 10:15-11:30am<br />

ELEMENTARY Preparation<br />

Reading & Writing Prep (grades 1-5)<br />

This course will give students the foundation to begin writing as a source of expression,<br />

reflection and personal development. They will further their appreciation of literature and<br />

learn to master their vocabulary and comprehension skills. This class is a precursor to the<br />

NYS English Language Arts Test Prep for grades 3-8 (Spring 2014).<br />

SA-1, 2: 10 sessions (12.5 hours) / $130 / 9-10:15am<br />

SA-3, 4, 5: 10 sessions (17.5 hours) / $190 / 9-10:45am<br />

Mathematics Prep (grades 1-5)<br />

Students will be encouraged to approach math in a fun and interactive way while strengthening<br />

their mathematics and problem solving skills, by working with numbers, operations,<br />

money. This class is a precursor to the NYS mandated assessments in Mathematics Test Prep<br />

for grades 3-8 (Spring 2014).<br />

Painting Around the World (grades 1-2)<br />

Daphne Shih, Designer, BA, Industrial Design, Art History-Pratt Institute<br />

Budding artists can begin to learn how to be artistic and paint while exploring the world. Bring<br />

your imagination! Bring a "painting shirt" to cover arms and body for painting.<br />

CLX-113 SP: 10 sessions (15 hours) / $140 / 11:50am-1:20pm<br />

PHYSICS: A Force to be Reckoned with!<br />

Vazgen Shekoyan, Ph.D.-Physics, QCC Asst. Professor-Physics Department, Service Learning<br />

This workshop will encourage students to investigate the properties of various<br />

forces in physics. Learn why objects float or sink in water, how friction forces<br />

help and hinder everything, how magnets work and how to make objects magnetic, how<br />

compasses work, and how to make a magnet to generate electricity.<br />
