GED Preparation for Adults: High School Equivalency Diploma<br />
Diana G. Berkowitz, ESL/GED Coordinator, PhD, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages<br />
(TESOL) / Columbia University, Master of Education in Applied Linguistics / Teachers <strong>College</strong>; Director<br />
of the <strong>CUNY</strong> Language Immersion Program (CLIP) and <strong>CUNY</strong>Start.<br />
TESTING & PLACEMENT for ALL GED STUDENTS: Monday, September 16th at 6-10 pm<br />
Registrants must take the Placement Test on September 16th to determine their readiness for<br />
a GED course. Students will either be placed into a Pre-GED or GED level class based on the<br />
results of this test. You will receive notification of your class assignment. BEX-198 PRE-M<br />
The Pre-GED course prepares students with the basic skills needed to qualify for the GED<br />
course. The GED course prepares adults to take the High School Equivalency Exam. Our<br />
highly qualified instructors will review and focus on the major subject areas of the test<br />
encompassing Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing and provide<br />
in-class training for test-taking and time management strategies.<br />
Free Math tutoring available at selected times throughout the day, Mondays & Wednesdays.<br />
Prerequisite for the GED course: Minimum score on the placement test. Students with<br />
below the minimum score will be placed into a Pre-GED section. To qualify to take the GED<br />
exam, students must be either at least 19 years of age OR 18 years of age and their high<br />
school class must have already graduated before the date the GED exam is taken.<br />
Please purchase the Required Textbook listed below depending on your placement,<br />
available at the QCC Bookstore, and bring to first class meeting:<br />
• Pre-GED: Pre-GED by McGraw-Hill<br />
• GED: Complete GED by McGraw-Hill<br />
An Orientation Program will be held for registrants; schedule to be announced.<br />

Pre-GED: 20 sessions (80 hours), Mon & Wed, Sept. 30-Dec. 11 (skip 10/14, 11/27)<br />
• MWA-P: MORNINGS: 8am-12:15pm with 15 minute break<br />
• MWP-P: AFTERNOONS: 1-5pm • MW-P: EVENINGS: 5-9pm<br />
GED: 20 sessions (80 hours), Mon, Wed, Fri, Sept. 30-Nov. 15 (skip 10/14)<br />
NOTE Changes in GED testing effective January 2014. Scores obtained on individual<br />
parts of this exam will not be accepted if GED is not obtained by this date.<br />
