The Barrington Children’s Charities (formed in March 2011) held
its first fundraising event on May 7 at the Wool Street Grill in Barrington. More than
200 people attended the not-for-profit’s “Run for the Roses Derby Party” to enjoy
watching the Derby, sip Mint Juleps and vie for raffle prizes. Stepping out in festive
Derby day attire, guests mingled and enjoyed an open bar and buffet while listening
to music provided by DJ Sonic III. Silent and live auctions and ticket fees helped to
raise more than $26,000 that will benefit area children’s charities.
The $26,000 included proceeds of $10,000 for the live auction item of a two
percent stake in a bay colt racehorse, and $5,000 for tickets to next year’s Kentucky
Derby. The BCC’s next event will be the “Holly Ball,” scheduled for December 10,
2011 at Barrington Hills Country Club.
“The Derby Party was our first Barrington
Children’s Charities event. Everyone
came out dressed in their fun Derby attire,
watched the race, and had a great time
with friends and family to support this wonderful
cause! BCC’s first event was a success
and we can’t wait for the ‘Holly Ball’ on
December 10,” said Darby Hills, president of
the organization.
