“We are pleased to inform you that Flint Creek Savanna has been selected by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Chicago Wilderness for a 2011 Conservation
and Native Landscaping Award. The … Awards recognize sites that are exemplary in the use
of native landscaping, ecosystem restoration and protection, and/or conservation design.
These practices create and protect habitat for a variety of native plant and animal species
and result in important environmental benefits for both people and nature.
Your commitment to your site, and that of your active and growing volunteer-base, are to be
commended. You have enhanced the habitat and biodiversity of the prairie, marsh, and oak
woods present at the 100-acre site, and facilitated natural connections between your site and
other local conservation groups and restoration projects through seed and plant exchanges.
You have protected the habitat for nesting and migratory birds and inspired public education
and communication efforts. We thank you for your hard work and commitment to biodiversity
conservation.”
