about Town AT RIGHT: The Barrington High School Madigral’s White House Performance in the North Foyer. BELOW: Upon arrival at Reagan National Airport on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m., Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was at the next gate, heading out of Washington, D.C. and we were arriving to sing in the White House that evening. The BHS Madrigals and their chaperones got up at 3 a.m. to catch their fight, and then performed for three hours, until 8:30 p.m. that evening. BOTTOM: One of many stops for The BHS Madrigals was the Jefferson Memorial. A Whirlwind Tour of Washington, D.C. The BHS Madrigals Visit the White House and Much More The Barrington Madrigals recently returned from a three-day whirlwind tour in Washington, D.C. They are led by Nancie Tobison and included 19 BHS students: Alexa Argianas, Katherine Badskey, Ben Bruce, Dina Dalessandro, Rose DiGiulio, Michael Hyatt, Gabi King, Stephen Martino, Anna Mehringer, John Moran III, Stefani Moranski, Oliver Pringle, Silpa Raju, Andrea Schumann, John Shattuck, Elizabeth Stermer, Kayla Stearns, Michael Waldron, and Tannah Wieneke. The Madrigals performed for almost three hours in the White House (with only a 10-minute break) to a heartwarming stream of White House staff and their guests. It was a Christmas Open House where staff could invite a few guests to come and enjoy the beautiful rooms decorated in Christmas splendor. Other wonderful singing venues included the White House National Tree, the Newseum, the Kennedy Center, the Marriott Hotel and other occasional stops along their busy tour schedule. This was a first time visit for many choir students to visit Washington, D.C. and also an opportunity of a lifetime for everyone including the parent chaperones and Dr. Tom Leonard, who was with us every step of the way. Our Barrington Madrigals brought holiday cheer to every monument they stopped at as the general public jumped in to grab photos with them too. - Joanne Dalessandro 54 • Quintessential Barrington | QBarrington.com

The … Awards recognize sites that are exemplary in the use of native landscaping, ecosystem restoration and protection, and/or conservation design. These practices create and protect habitat for a variety of native plant and animal species and result in important environmental benefits for both people and nature. Your commitment to your site, and that of your active and growing volunteer-base, are to be commended. You have enhanced the habitat and biodiversity of the prairie, marsh, and oak woods present at the 100-acre site, and facilitated natural connections between your site and other local conservation groups and restoration projects through seed and plant exchanges. You have protected the habitat for nesting and migratory birds and inspired public education and communication efforts. We thank you for your hard work and commitment to biodiversity conservation.” 56 • Quintessential Barrington | QBarrington.com
