Civil Rights Heroes Walked
The Chapel, Barrington Hills, 2 –3:30 p.m.
This 3rd annual MLK Celebration will feature
an interactive experiential afternoon with the
opportunity to engage in events that led up
to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Join us for this
powerful journey into our nation’s past and
an opportunity to talk about what we learn
and how it might shape today and tomorrow.
Appropriate for ages 8+. An MLK activity
room will be provided for younger children.

Youth Arts Alive
BHS Auditorium, Starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition
(BADPC) is sponsoring this fun and free event.
The evening will consist of several local arts
organizations including, Bataille Academie
of the Danse, Barrington Suzuki, Barrington
Youth Orchestra, Barrington Children’s Choir,
Bel Canto Studios, Consolidated Music, and
Kaleidoscope School of Art. Each of these
organizations will perform and highlight their
program. Funds raised from concessions and
donations will benefit BADPC.

Thursday, February 2
Dr. Yong Zhao Visits Barrington
Two events are open to the public
9:15 to 11 a.m. – “Morningline” hosted by
the BHS PTO in the high school auditorium.
This event will balance Dr. Zhao’s engaging
presentation style with audience questions
and interactive discussions. The program is
free and open to the general public.
Wellness Place Gala
Wellness Place celebrated its “Art of the Human Spirit” Auxiliary Gala at The Art Institute of
Chicago on Saturday, October 8. Supporters of the organization gathered for an evening of
art, laughter, learning and giving as they raised their glasses and paddles in support of those
facing cancer from our community.
“I couldn’t believe the amazing weather we had – the outdoor atrium with its vintage
fountains and white lights, surrounded by the Chicago skyline – were a perfect setting
for the cocktail hour … a beautiful start to a lovely evening,” said Wellness Place Board
Chairwoman, Ellaine Sambo-Reyther.
Guides were on hand for personally conducted tours of exhibits including the Chagall
Windows and “Windows on the War”. Dinner was held in the historic Stock Exchange Room
where guests enjoyed the relocated elaborate stenciled decorations, molded plaster capitals
and art glass originally designed for the Stock Exchange by Louis Sullivan in 1893.
The program included presentation of the Pat and Vince Foglia Award for Loyalty and
Commitment to Shefali Bhuva of South Barrington.
Proceeds benefit Wellness Place cancer-related counseling, education and support
programs provided at no charge to survivors, their family, friends and caregivers.
Wellness Place is a community-based center in Palatine serving people who are diagnosed

11:30 to 1 p.m. – A Business and Community
Leaders Luncheon, co-hosted by the Morning
and Noon Rotary Clubs of Barrington.
Dr. Zhao will look at the needs and
complexities of preparing students and
businesses to be competitive in a 21st century
global economy. The luncheon will be in the
Performing Arts Center at the Garlands of
Barrington, 1000 Garlands Lane. Cost is $15
