Since 2008, the Department has reduced the cost of<br />
overall expenditure on its annual allowances and subsidies.<br />
Some of these payments relate to allowances paid on a<br />
’reserved rights’ basis. Current available allowances include<br />
such payments as:<br />
Private Office allowance (in lieu of overtime);<br />
Excess fares—for civil servants who are relocated at the<br />
Department’s instigation; and<br />
Detached duty payments—covering costs of living away from<br />
home while temporarily posted to a new location.<br />
Information about the annual costs of allowances<br />
and subsidies for the Department’s civil servants has<br />
been taken from the Department’s Payroll System and<br />
is set out in the following table.<br />
