Prayer to St. Margaret Mary
Dear St. Margaret Mary, permitted by the Sacred Heart of Jesus to become a caretaker of its divine treasures,
obtain for us, we ask You, from that Adorable Heart all the graces we need. We ask for them with
boundless confidence; may the Divine Heart be willing to grant them to us through Your intercession, so
that once again He may, through You, be glorified and loved. Amen.
Although I guess I can’t say the “A” word during Lent, I
suppose one can write it. ALLELUIA – we paid off our
debt. Thank you Lord! I included a nice “congratulations”
letter from Archbishop Carlson in this bulletin. And I
again thank all those who made Gold Envelope contributions
these past years.
Now let’s look to the future. Remember, we are continuing
our Gold Envelope Campaign with a new name, Ensuring
the Future, specifically funding two new goals:
support for our grade school and support for capital improvements.
Here’s one quick answer to the question….
Why give to the Gold Envelope Campaign? Teacher salaries
for next year will increase 3% and deservedly so.
This computes to a need for over $50,000. A 3% tuition
increase would seem appropriate. However, contributions
to our Gold Envelope Campaign might allow us to NOT
increase tuition. School families making donations
through the Gold Envelope could claim tax deductions.
Tuition payments, of course, are not tax deductible. The
generous stewardship of all our parishioners will ensure
the future of our school and all parish ministries.
At each Sunday Mass we will say together a special prayer
to end abortion, to end violence and terrorism, to continue
the practice of good stewardship (also requested by
Archbishop Carlson). The prayer is on the front cover of
the Music Issue; we’ll say the prayer together at the conclusion
of the Petitions.
Each year the Archbishop invites adults who have not received
the Sacrament of Confirmation to a special Mass at
the Cathedral Basilica. This year’s celebration is on June
12 th at 2:30pm. Help me spread the word; call me for
more information.
Join me in asking a special blessing for Msgr. Leach who
is celebrating his 53 rd Ordination Anniversary Tuesday,
March 22 nd . Ad Multos Annos!

Dear Monsignor Ernst,
I understand that St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
Parish will pay off its debt to the St.
Louis Archdiocesan Fund sometime this
month. I understand your Parish has been in
debt since the mid-1980’s, when it expanded
its school building. Subsequently,
the Parish borrowed to build its Church and,
most recently, borrowed to build a Parish
Center and to refurbish its school and office
space. Considering the Parish was established
in 1962, it has been in debt for half
its existence. What a wonderful testimony
to the stewardship of its parishioners, past
and present, as you prepare to celebrate the
parish’s 50th Anniversary in 2012!
I congratulate you on your outstanding leadership
and that of all the former pastors: Father
Joseph Scheer, Monsignor Greg Schmidt,
Father Bob Samson as Administrator, and
Monsignor Dennis Stehly. Please convey my
deepest gratitude to the priests, deacons, staff

MORE ON THE MESSAGE OF MERCY
The ABC’s of Mercy
The message of mercy can be called to mind simply by remembering
A-B-C.
Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in
prayer constantly.
Be Merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and
let it flow through us to others.
Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that
the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust.
The Sacred Image
The image that Our Lord asked St. Maria
Faustina to have painted is a portrait of
Jesus as Merciful Savior. The red and
pale rays represent the blood and water
that flowed from His pierced Heart as a
fountain of mercy for us. The image is a
reminder for us to come to Jesus with
trust and to be merciful to others; and it
should always carry the signature, “Jesus,
I trust in You!”
Many different versions of this image have been painted, but Our
Lord made it clear that the painting itself is not what is important;
“Not in the beauty of the color, nor of the brush lies the greatness
of this image, but in My grace” (Diary, 313).
So no matter which version you prefer, you can be assured that
God’s grace will flow through it.
Divine Mercy Sunday will be Sunday, May 1st.

Evangelization
Committee
The results of the Parish Pulse survey, conducted
by the Parish Council, showed that our
parishioners have a strong desire to increase the
evangelization effort within our parish. As part
of that effort, we are forming an Evangelization
Committee to help welcome back Catholics
who have been away from the church. We are
looking for parishioners who would like to assist
in this effort.
This committee will assist in a Catholics Returning
Home program that we will restart here
at SMMA. Also, the committee will plan their
focus moving forward, as there is a lot of work
to be done in this area.
Many Catholics have left the church or are infrequent
Mass attendees, and their reasons are
many. We ask that all parishioners help with
our evangelization effort. Please ask friends
and neighbors to come to church with you. Be
patient and loving with those who have doubts.
And please pray for those who are still finding
their way home.
In this season of Lent, please consider taking
that extra step to Evangelize. If you would like
to be part of this new parish organization please

Leagues are now being formed for women's softball and we are in need of players.
Games are one hour and played on Sunday nights at SMMA. Weather permitting, play
will start in late April. You do not have to have a team assignment, we can place you on a
team. We especially want to extend the invitation to new parishioners. This is a great way
to meet others and have fun. All talent levels are welcome. If you are interested in playing,

Athletic Association’s “Person of the Year”
Tom Sims was named SMMA’s Athletic Association “Person of the Year”! The SMMA
Athletic Association Board and members, as well as parents and kids of all the teams he
has coached, would like to thank Tom for his many hours of coaching and teaching, and
chairing the SMMA Soccer Tournament for the past six years.
South County Boys’ Lacrosse Team
Attention 6th, 7th & 8th Grade Boys
The CYC is offering a boys’ grade school Lacrosse league for the 3rd year, and the South
County District will be having practice at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque's fields in the
coming weeks. If you are interested in playing lacrosse and being on a multi-parish team,
please call Marc Garcia at 487-2694 or 680-1809 or email him at marc_garcia@bd.com.
It is not necessary for you to know how to play lacrosse as the coaches will be teaching
the sport at the start of practices, and Marc can provide a discounted cost for the lacrosse
equipment. Practices will be 2 to 3 days a week at SMMA and games will be on Saturdays
at Meyer Youth Center on South Kingshighway across from St. Mary Magdalen Church in
South St. Louis.
Any former high school or college lacrosse players are welcome to offer their time, experience
and services to assist at practices or games.

ADULT CONFIRMATION ON

Why is giving up something
for Lent such a valuable
custom?
By denying ourselves something we enjoy,
we discipline our wills so that we are not
slaves to our pleasures. Just as indulging
the pleasure of eating leads to physical flabbiness
and, if this is great enough, an inability
to perform in physically demanding
situations, indulging in pleasure in general
leads to spiritual flabbiness and, if this is
great enough, an inability to perform in
spiritually demanding situations, when the
demands of morality require us to sacrifice
something pleasurable or endure hardship.
By disciplining the will to refuse pleasures
when they are not sinful, a habit is
developed which allows the will to refuse
pleasures when they are sinful. There are
few better ways to keep ones priorities
straight than by periodically denying ourselves
things of lesser priority to show us
that they are not necessary and focus our
attention on what is necessary.
