With changes in healthcare, more and more personal trainers<br />
are finding themselves answering questions about sports injuries<br />
and designing safe exercise programs for injured clients. In<br />
this session, Physical Therapist Terry Kane, will present both the<br />
science as well as protocols for personal trainers to increase<br />
their confidence and competency in working with this client<br />
population. Topics to be discussed include, stages <strong>of</strong> tissue<br />
healing, diagnostic tests, acute management, non-surgical vs.<br />
surgical treatments, rehabilitation, post-rehab exercise.<br />

Pamela Boyson, B.Sc., RD, is a graduate <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Alberta</strong><br />
and is a Registered Dietitian. Currently she is the project coordinator<br />
for the nourish move thrive initiative. She is part <strong>of</strong> the team<br />
<strong>of</strong> registered dietitians at <strong>Alberta</strong> Milk, who are leaders in nutrition<br />
education and work with consumers, teachers and health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
Pamela was the recipient <strong>of</strong> a national healthy living award<br />
for excellence in consumer education for her work with schools in<br />
rural <strong>Alberta</strong> and has spent most <strong>of</strong> her career working with schools,<br />
school divisions, coaches, and communities in creating healthy environments<br />
to live, learn and work. Her passion is transforming the<br />
science <strong>of</strong> nutrition into every day healthy eating strategies.<br />
Michelle Felzmann CFP PDS, FIS, NWS & PTS<br />
Michelle is a highly accomplished fitness leader with 17 years <strong>of</strong><br />
experience in the fitness industry. Michelle is a Bender Ball master<br />
trainer, TRX course instructor, host <strong>of</strong> “The Look” <strong>Fitness</strong> video series<br />
and a national fitness presenter. Michelle’s specialization lies in<br />
strength, flexibility and core training classes on the ball and is a CEC<br />
provider in Calgary.<br />
Mark Grevelding is a training specialist for the Aquatic Exercise<br />
Association (AEA) and also serves as AEA’s Promotions Coordinator.<br />
He is an international presenter and a continuing education provider<br />
for AEA, AFAA & ACE. Mark is the founder <strong>of</strong> Fit Motivation and the<br />
creator <strong>of</strong> Visual Choreography Notes, an exclusive line <strong>of</strong> choreography<br />
DVDs for aquatic fitness pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
Simone Hodgkinson is originally from the UK and has been<br />
involved in the fitness industry for 23 years. She is an experienced<br />
Personal Trainer, a qualified Yoga Teacher (Iyengar Style), the director<br />
<strong>of</strong> Physical Yoga (Canada & UK), the Group <strong>Fitness</strong> Director for Spa<br />
Lady (Calgary), a Bender Ball Master Trainer and a regular on Calgary<br />
TV. She has written several educational manuals, produced videos<br />
and written for national newspapers and fitness media. She is<br />
also a qualified Teacher <strong>of</strong> Education and provides quality education<br />
and development for fitness pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in Canada and the UK.<br />
Terry Kane is a licensed physical therapist who has worked with<br />
over 500 Olympic and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional athletes as well as held positions<br />
as Head Physical Therapist with the Canadian Olympic Hockey<br />
Team and the Calgary Flames. In addition to his clinical work, Terry<br />
has written and lectured internationally on rehab and post rehab<br />
exercise at conferences such as ACSM, CASM, IDEA, Fit Rendezvous<br />
amongst others as well as editorial peer reviewer for the Physician<br />
and Sportsmedicine and to Clinical Journal <strong>of</strong> Sports Medicine.<br />
Len Kravitz, Ph.D., is the Program Coordinator <strong>of</strong> Exercise Science<br />
and Researcher at the University <strong>of</strong> New Mexico where he won the<br />
“Outstanding Teacher <strong>of</strong> the Year” award. Len was recently honored<br />
with the 2009 Canadian <strong>Fitness</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional “Specialty Presenter<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Year” award and chosen as the American Council on Exercise<br />
2006 “<strong>Fitness</strong> Educator <strong>of</strong> the Year”. He also has received the<br />
prestigious Canadian <strong>Fitness</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional “Lifetime Achievement<br />
Award”.<br />
Kathy Maier, co-owner <strong>of</strong> Only Women’s <strong>Fitness</strong>, Tao<br />
Pilates Day Spa and FitQuest Consulting has been involved<br />
in the fitness industry for 20 years. She is the North American<br />
Educational Director for the Bender Ball Method <strong>of</strong> Training, a<br />
Certified Public Speaker, Post-Rehabilitation Specialist, Master<br />
Trainer for Balance Body University and CMS International.<br />
She was the recipient <strong>of</strong> the 2006 YWCA Women <strong>of</strong> Distinction<br />
Award and currently is President <strong>of</strong> Executive Women<br />
International Lethbridge Chapter. Kathleen is an international<br />
presenter on a wide variety <strong>of</strong> topics and her enthusiasm and<br />
positive thinking are infectious.<br />
Lesley McEwan’s endless pursuit in promoting, delivering<br />
and supporting healthy active lifestyles has evolved into a<br />
life-long commitment! Lesley is the AFLCA Older Adult Project<br />
Coordinator and has been delivering the AFLCA Ever Active<br />
Adults and <strong>Fitness</strong> for the Older Adults programs for 10 years.<br />
Leading a variety <strong>of</strong> fitness classes herself, she possesses a<br />
deep passion for getting and keeping older adults active!<br />
Suzette O’Byrne, BSc Kinesiology, is a Keiser Master Trainer<br />
and the author <strong>of</strong> the book Yoga for the Core: Finding Stability<br />
in an Unstable Environment. In addition to her successful yoga<br />
therapy practice, indoor cycling program development, Suzette<br />
travels extensively, teaching at conferences and leading workshops<br />
and teacher training programs around North America.<br />
Suzette is a faculty member and advisory committee chair with<br />

Marjorie O’Connor, BEd., ACSM, AFLCA Trainer, CFP and<br />
Stott Pilates certified and Nike Athlete, is the owner <strong>of</strong> Fit<br />
International. A respected international fitness presenter and<br />
aerobic champion, Marjorie was honoured with the “Woman <strong>of</strong><br />
Vision”, the “Women Of Distinction” award in Athletics, Recreation<br />
and <strong>Fitness</strong>, the recipient <strong>of</strong> the “Mall Peepre” memorial<br />
award and the “Celebration <strong>of</strong> Women in <strong>Fitness</strong>” award<br />
from the Running Room. Recently Marjorie was inducted into<br />
the <strong>Alberta</strong> Sports Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame as a recipient <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Alberta</strong><br />
Centennial Salute for Sport and Recreation.<br />
Krista Popowych is a highly sought-after and inspiring<br />
international presenter. She is a two-time Canadian Presenter<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Year award winner (2008, 2003) and Program Manager<br />
at the Richmond Olympic Oval. As a published author, she is<br />
also featured in various fitness and management DVD’s, has<br />
hosted and co-hosted the Caribbean Workout, is a master<br />
trainer for numerous programs, contributes to various boards<br />
and committees and is an accomplished leader in program<br />
design and business management. Krista attributes her success<br />
to her passion for fitness and her goal to inspire others through<br />

her fitness career in New York and took all that NYC attitude and flair<br />
to create her signature presentation style; fabulous and fun! Jessica is a<br />
recognized fitness presenter, fitness instructor and course conductor and is<br />
well known for her vivacious personality and sense <strong>of</strong> humour.<br />
Fraser Quelch is the Head Coach and Director <strong>of</strong> Training and Development<br />
for <strong>Fitness</strong> Anywhere and is the creator and lead educator <strong>of</strong> the<br />
revolutionary TRX Suspension Training Program. He is a dynamic and highenergy<br />
presenter who combines an animated, entertaining style along<br />
with his knowledge and gift to motivate and inspire! An internationally renowned<br />
expert in the fields <strong>of</strong> functional training and endurance athletics,<br />
Fraser has presented at conferences and events all over the world. His<br />
writing has appeared in numerous trade magazines including the IDEA<br />
<strong>Fitness</strong> Journal, On <strong>Fitness</strong> Magazine and NSCA Performance Journal and<br />
he has been featured in 19 <strong>Fitness</strong> DVDs.<br />

Jo-Anne Repond Bunbury B.A., M.A. is a fully certified STOTT PILATES<br />
Instructor Trainer and continuing education provider whose experience,<br />
knowledge and passion for human kinetics has helped her become a<br />
sought-after instructor, examiner, and international presenter. Since her<br />
certification she has worked with physiotherapists helping their patients<br />
on the road to recovery, trained athletes to enhance their athletic performance<br />
and assisted breast cancer survivors rebuild their strength and<br />
spirit. Jo-Anne is the owner <strong>of</strong> the Calgary Pilates Centre, a fully equipped<br />
3900 sq. ft. facility <strong>of</strong>fering full pilates instructor certification programs.<br />
Stephanie Thielen B.S. is an AEA Training Specialist, BOSU Master<br />
Trainer/Presenter, NETA Trainer, and a Premier Consultant with SFR, a<br />
company that provides educational resources to fitness pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
She holds 20 years <strong>of</strong> extensive experience in group fitness instruction,<br />
program development, and staff management at the corporate, community,<br />
and collegiate level. Dedicated to quality training, Stephanie provides<br />
educational fitness workshops that teach logical methods for class<br />
construction, providing the “tools <strong>of</strong> the trade” to help instructors develop<br />
their pr<strong>of</strong>essional teaching skills.<br />
Peter Twist, MSc. is the president <strong>of</strong> Twist Sport Conditioning. He is an<br />
exercise physiologist with a specialization in coaching science. Having<br />
coached in the NHL for 11 years, Peter has worked with over 700 pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
athletes, has published over 400 papers, 10 books and 19 DVDs on<br />
athlete development. Peter was honored with the National Strength and<br />
Conditioning Association’s President’s Award, the CFP Specialty Presenter<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Year and was recently named the 2011 IDEA Program Director <strong>of</strong><br />
the Year.<br />
Helen Vanderburg, Bkin, AFLCA Trainer, ACE, CFP, Pilates, Yoga certified<br />
is the owner <strong>of</strong> Heavens <strong>Fitness</strong> Club, Fusion <strong>Fitness</strong> Training, an<br />
international health and fitness consultant and is a respected motivational<br />
speaker. She is the 2005 IDEA <strong>Fitness</strong> Instructor <strong>of</strong> the Year, 2006/1996<br />
CFP Presenter <strong>of</strong> the Year, 1996 IDEA Program Director <strong>of</strong> the Year, 2001<br />
Women <strong>of</strong> Vision, the 2001 Mall Peepre National <strong>Fitness</strong> Leadership recipient.<br />
Helen brings a wealth <strong>of</strong> experience to her presentations, workshop<br />
and classes as a business owner, instructor trainer, writer, DVD producer<br />
and elite athlete as a past World Champion synchronized swimmer and<br />
honored member <strong>of</strong> the Canadian Sports Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame and International<br />
Aquatic Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame.<br />
