speeches, Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker is composed of a
wealth of German literary texts and materials that span 11 centuries.
■ The Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker is the electronic
edition of the renowned Bibliothek deutscher Klassiker, highly
regarded as the premier collection of literary and non-literary German
writing. Texts cover the works of 34 authors and range from early
German writing to the works of major authors of the 19th century,
including the St. Trudperter Hohelied, editions of important authors
such as Hölderlin, Kleist, and Büchner, and the works of philosophers
such as Kant, Schleiermacher, and Fichte. Collections of essays,
speeches, and other non-literary material add context and background
material. ■ All the Bibliothek deutscher Klassiker texts have been
newly edited by leading international scholars and are accompanied
by extensive commentaries that reflect the most recent research.

Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker
makes the works in Bibliothek deutscher
Klassiker available electronically for the
first time. The database provides
electronic access to the full text of 133
volumes of the print edition—SGMLcoded
and manually keyed. Digitale
Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker will
contain all the Deutscher Klassiker Verlag
editions except Schiller, Goethe, and
Wieland. It will include 31 of the 34
Werkausgaben (single-author editions)
and all 16 Sammelwerke (collections) of
historical, philosophical, theological,
political, and art history texts.
Sophisticated Searches A number
of searching tools and features make it
easy to find specific information. Users
are able to cross-search 11 centuries of
German literature, navigating easily
between primary and secondary texts.
Many of the texts have not been available
together before. In addition, researchers
are able to:
• Search full text for author, keyword,
title, and title keyword
• Search by date
• Search for separate genres (letters,
diaries, etc.)
• Navigate easily between texts,
commentaries, and indices
• Find and check quotations quickly
• Conduct linguistic research
Release Schedule The Digitale
Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker is being
published in eight releases (Ausgaben)
and will be complete in 2004. The
electronic edition will be published in
eight complete full-text releases online
and on CD-ROM. The first two Web
releases and the first three CD-ROM
releases are currently available.
