Herzlichen Glückwunsch: Sie halten die neue Frühjahrs-Collection mit den Herpa- 

Modelltrends in Ihren Händen – mit vielen Neuheiten und neuen Formen bis Juni 2013. 

Das „größte“ Highlight dieser Ausgabe stellt die Antonov AN-225 im Maßstab 1:200 

dar. Im Original ist der Flieger Rekordhalter für den mit 190 Tonnen schwersten Einzeltransport 

der Welt. Auch im Modell mit 442 Millimetern Breite und 427 Millimetern 

Länge ist er ein kleiner Gigant. Ein Transportwunder der Lüfte ist auch die C5-Galaxy. 

Bis 1982 war sie das größte Flugzeug der Welt, und auch heute sind viele der ur- 

sprünglich 131 Maschinen vor allem im militärischen Dienst unterwegs. Freunde des 

Maßstabs 1:500 dürfen sich jetzt auf dieses Highlight als hochwertiges 

Metallmodell freuen. Dazu erscheinen viele neue Farbvarianten 

wie die gerade veröffentlichte Bemalung der Iberia 

oder die bunte Werbebemalung „Manchester City“, mit 

der der Sponsor Etihad Werbung für den gleichnamigen 

Fußballclub macht. Nach dem großen Erfolg des ersten 

Modellhubschraubers im Maßstab 1:200 erweitert Herpa 

diese Serie mit einem CH-47 Chinook. Der mittelschwere 

Transporter wird in Militärkreisen wegen seiner zwei gegenläufigen 

Rotoren gerne als „Banane“ bezeichnet. Durch diese 

Bauart kann der Helikopter aber auch sehr schweres Gerät in 

unwegsames Gelände bringen. Nicht nur bei den Flugzeugen 

selbst gibt es viele Neuheiten, auch der Bereich Zubehör rückt 

wieder stärker in den Fokus. Nach einem ersten Flughafendiorama 

des Airport Memmingen erscheint in diesem Jahr auch ein 

erstes originalgetreues Flughafengebäude des Schiphol Airport 

in Amsterdam inklusive hochwertiger Folie und Zubehör. Die Gebäude 

sind bereits montiert, und so starten Sie ganz einfach Ihre 

Karriere als Flughafenmanager.

Dear Herpa customers, collectors and model fans, 

Congratulations on picking up the new Spring Collection – Herpa’s model trends including 

many new releases and new types for the period up to June 2013. The “biggest” 

highlight of this issue is the Antonov AN-225 in the 1/200 scale. The original plane is 

the record holder for the world’s heaviest individual transport of 190 tons. As a matter 

of fact, even the 442 millimeter wide and 427 millimeter long model is a little giant 

of the skies. Another transport wonder of world aviation is the C5-Galaxy. Indeed, until 

1982 it was the world’s biggest airplane – and even today, many of the 131 

airplanes built are still in military operation. Friends of the 1/500 

scale can look forward to this highlight as a high quality metal 

model. Furthermore, many new color variants are set to make 

an appearance, like the colorful “Manchester City” livery, with 

which sponsor Etihad promotes the soccer club of the same 

name. After the rousing success of its first model helicopter in 

the 1/200 scale, Herpa continues this series with a CH-47 nook. The medium-heavy transporter is affectionately called a 

“flying banana” in military circles – because of its two raised,

rotors. Thanks to its unusual design, the he- 

licopter is capable of transporting even heavy equipment to 

impassable areas. But there’s more besides the plethora of 

new airplane releases – accessories are increasingly taking 

center stage again. After a first airplane diorama of Airport 

Memmingen, we now release the first true-to-the-original 

airport building of Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, inclu- 

ding high-quality foils and accessories. The buildings 

come already pre-assembled, so you can fast-track your 

budding career as an airport manager.

Mit einer Reichweite von über 16.000 Kilometern ist die 500er-Serie nach wie vor Weltmeister auf der Ultra-Langstrecke. Aufgrund mäßiger Nachfrage 

auch seitens der Passagiere nach Flügen mit einer Dauer von 15 Stunden oder länger, wurde die Produktion nach 32 Exemplaren 

eingestellt. Derzeit betreibt Thai noch vier A340-500, deren Zukunft jedoch ungewiss ist. / With a range of over 16,000 kilometers 

(10,000 miles), the -500 series is still the reigning record holder in ultra-long distance flights. Due to low demand, also from 

passengers for flights of 15 or more hours, production was stopped after 32 units. Currently, Thai still operates four 

A340-500s, their future however is uncertain.

An einem Giganten wie der von Lockheed stammenden C-5 Galaxy kommt man nicht vorbei. Das in den 1960er Jahren 

konzipierte und bis heute von der U.S. Air Force eingesetzte Großraumflugzeug verfügt über einen gewaltigen Frachtraum, 

der mehr als 120 Tonnen aufnehmen kann. 131 Exemplare des 75 Meter langen Flugzeuges wurden gebaut und 

stehen unter anderem bei der 60. Air Mobility Wing auf der Travis Air Force Base in Kalifornien im Dienst. / One cannot 

simply ignore Lockheed’s gigantic C-5 Galaxy. Designed and developed in the 1960s, this heavy airlifter with a load capacity 

of more than 120 tons (270,000 lb) is still today operated by the U.S. Air Force. 131 units of this 247 ft long aircraft 

were built. One of the operators of this type is the 60th Air Mobility Wing located at Travis Air Force Base in California.

Mit diesem ersten Abschnitt vom internationalen Flughafen Schiphol bei Amsterdam bietet 

Herpa neben den beliebten Gebäudesets originalgetreu nachgebildete Gebäude eines Flughafens. 

Diese Gebäude sind komplett montiert und weisen zahlreiche Details auf wie transparente 

Fensterflächen oder feine Konturen und Strukturen auf den Seiten und Dachflächen. 

Zunächst erscheinen das internationale Pier F des Flughafens mit den dazugehörigen und für 

Schiphol markanten Fluggastbrücken sowie die passende Bodenfolie. Weitere Abschnitte des 

Flughafens Schiphol sind geplant.

Next to the existing, popular range of airport buildings, Herpa now offers a first section 

of true to original buildings of Amsterdam’s international Airport Schiphol. These 

building come fully assembled and feature numerous fine details, such as transparent 

window surfaces, or contours and structures on the sides and roof elements. 

The first section depicts the international Pier F of the airport with the respective and for 

Schiphol unique jetways, as well as the ground foil. Further sections of Schiphol are planned.

Die „Mriya“ (Traum) wurde in den 1980er Jahren im Rahmen des „Buran“ Weltraumprogramms aus der bereits riesigen AN-124 entwickelt. 1988 

erlebte sie ihren Erstflug und sorgte im Westen für großes Staunen bei den Erstpräsentationen anlässlich der Ausstellungen in Paris und Farnborough 

1989 und 1990. Das Modell erscheint in der ursprünglichen Bemalung inklusive sowjetischer Kennung. / “Mriya” (Dream) was developed in 

the 1980s from the already large An-124 as part of the “Buran” space program. It first flew in 1988 and aroused quite some astonishment with its 

first appearances in the west at the Paris and Farnborough exhibitions in 1989 and 1990, respectively. The model sports the first color scheme, 

including the Soviet registration.

größte. Die AN-225 hält mehrere Weltrekorde, wie etwa für die schwerste Fracht (über 189 Tonnen). Dieses Flugzeug der Superlative erscheint als Herpa-Modell nun auch in 1:200. Der voll ausgespritzte Rumpf und die Tragfläche mit einer Spannweite 

von über 44 cm ruhen auf 32 Gummireifen. Ausgeliefert wird das Modell mit einem speziellen Stand aus Acrylglas. / The "Mriya" ("Dream") exhibits a number of awe-inspiring capabilities and figures: With a maximum take-off weight of 460.000 kg 

(1.4 million pounds) it is the heaviest aircraft in the world and with its wing span of 88 meters (290 ft) also the largest. The AN-225 holds numerous world records, such as for the the heaviest payload at 189 tons. This second to none aircraft is now 

released as a Herpa model in the 1/200 scale. The solid fuselage and the wings with a span of over 44 cm (more than 17 in) rest on 32 rubber tires. A special display stand made of acrylic glass is included with each model.

Balkan Bulgarian Airlines Tupolev TU-154B2 – LZ-BTT 

Mit seiner Lage am Schwarzen Meer war Bulgarien stets ein beliebtes Urlaubsziel für die kommunistischen Bruderstaaten, 

aber auch für Urlauber Westeuropas. 1972 erhielt Balkan als erste Exportkundin die damals neue TU-154. Eine beträchtliche 

Flotte von insgesamt 47 Exemplaren wurde eingesetzt. / With its location on the Black Sea, Bulgaria was always a 

popular holiday destination for its Communist brother states, but also for vacationers from Western Europe. Balkan was 

the very first export customer for at the time brand new TU-154, operating a respectable fleet of a total of 47 trijets.

1958 machte sich eine erste Vickers Viscount auf den Weg von Wien über Zürich nach London. Zum 50. Jubiläum 2008, präsentierte 

Austrian eine A320 im Look der Gründerzeit, die noch heute auf den Flughäfen Europas bewundert werden kann. 

A Vickers Viscount set out for its first flight from Vienna via Zurich to London in the year 1958. On the occasion of 

its 50th anniversary, Austrian unveiled an A320 in the look of the founding years, which still today can be admired at 

airports around Europe.

einer viereinhalb mal so großen Fläche wie der von 

Deutschland, ist die Mongolei der am dünnsten besiedeldste 

Staat der Erde. Ein Drittel der Bevölkerung lebt in der 

Hauptstadt Ulaanbaatar, der Rest verteilt sich auf die wenigen 

anderen Städte oder lebt nomadenhaft in den endlosen 

Weiten des Landes. Da die Bodenbeschaffenheit und das 

Klima kaum Ackerbau ermöglichen, wird hauptsächlich 

nomadische Viehwirtschaft betrieben. Auch aus diesem 

Grund sind Nutztiere und insbesondere Pferde noch immer 

wichtige Beförderungsmittel in den Steppen. Aber auch 

der Luftverkehr hat, wenn auch spät, eine führende Rolle 

im Transportwesen übernommen. Neben ersten privaten 

Gesellschaften steht die staatliche MIAT dabei an erster 

Stelle. Mit dem Übergang vom Sozialismus in die Marktwirtschaft 

befindet sie sich seit den 1990er Jahren im Aufwind. 

Unwillkürlich denkt man bei der Mongolei an den legendären 

Herrscher Dschingis Khan, dem es im Jahr 1206 gelang, 

die zerstrittenen Nomaden-Stämme auf dem Territorium der 

heutigen Mongolei zu vereinigen. Mit einer mächtigen Armee, 

zu der mit wenigen Ausnahmen alle Männer zwischen 15 und 

70 Jahren verpflichtet wurden, eroberte er in dem so genannten 

Mongolensturm weite Teile Asiens und drang bis nach 

Europa vor. Das von ihm gegründete Mongolische Reich bildete 

das größte zusammenhängende Reich der Geschichte. 

Nach dessen Zusammenbruch allerdings wurden die zahlreichen 

Soldaten wieder zu Viehzüchtern und verlegten sich auf 

ihr traditionelles nomadisches Dasein. Ab dem 16. Jahrhundert 

kam das Land zunehmend unter den Einfluss des Buddhismus, 

und große Teile wurden wenig später durch die chinesische 

Qing-Dynastie beherrscht. Deren Zusammenbruch 

wiederum nutzte die Mongolei, um mit russischer Unterstützung 

im Jahr 1911 ihre Unabhängigkeit zu erklären. Zwei Jahre 

nach Gründung der Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken 

(UdSSR) wurde die Mongolische Volksrepublik 1924 

als zweiter sozialistischer Staat der Geschichte proklamiert. 

Sie stand seitdem unter dem politischen Einfluss der Sowjetunion. 

Nach den Revolutionen in den sozialistischen Ländern 

Osteuropas und der UdSSR im Jahr 1989 wurde schließlich 

eine demokratische Verfassung angenommen und der 

schwierige Übergang von der Plan- zur Marktwirtschaft eingeleitet. 

Trotz eines starken Wirtschaftswachstums lebt heute 

etwa ein Drittel der mongolischen Bevölkerung in Armut.

on the steppes. But air traffic – even if it was adopted 

late in the piece – has taken over an important role in 

transport. Alongside the first private outfits, the national 

MIAT dominates the market. With the change from 

socialism to a market economy, it has been on the up 

since the 1990s.
