A commitment to our future Looking at laundry through fresh eyes The long life of Miele appliances is legendary and the fact that they are designed and built for a working life of 20 years is testament to our commitment to the environment. It is our objective to produce and market durable goods that not only excel in terms of performance and safety, but also place a minimal burden on the environment throughout the cradle-to-grave product cycle. Our products offer contemporary design and state-of-the-art technology. Our Research and Development teams are constantly striving to improve the performance of our appliances and the manner in which they are manufactured. In doing so, we ensure that raw materials, energy, water and other natural resources are used sparingly and that the user – benefits and functions offered by our products are continually improved. It is against a backdrop of setting high standards for both ourselves and our suppliers and maintaining regular quality checks that we are proud to be the first appliance manufacturer world-wide to have been awarded the International Environment Standard DIN EN ISO 14001 certification for all our factories. Reducing packaging When it comes to the packaging, our motto is ‘as much as necessary, but as little as possible’. Naturally we make it as environment friendly as we can, and all our packaging is recyclable. Recycling appliances Thanks to their high metal content, Miele’s large appliances are the most recyclable in the world. All plastic components are marked so that they can be manually sorted by their different materials for recycling at the end of a machine’s life. Space-frame construction To ensure your appliance is repaired quickly and accurately, the front, sides and lid can be removed allowing for easy access and perfect visibility. Updating old appliances A PC update facility on all our washing machines and dryers means that programme data can be upgraded at a future date should the need arise. This way you will be able to benefit from these new additions without having to purchase a completely new machine. 8
Saving energy Miele washing machines give excellent results and are extremely economical. The consumption levels of Miele machines have been evaluated according to strict EU regulations, so it is easy to see how they compare with other machines. All Miele washing machines have achiev ed: A+ for electricity consumption and A for wash performance. The top of the range machines with 1600 rpm spin speeds have also achieved an: A for spin efficiency At this high spin speed, the residual mois ture level is only 43%–44% after spinning, making subsequent tumble drying very economical. A new A+ energy rating has been introduced for ultra efficient appliances. The energy consumption levels of all the new washing machines have been reduced from 0.95 kWh to 0.85 kWh, therefore achieving an A+ energy rating. All Miele tumble dryers have achieved: B for energy consumption. Saving your money All Miele washing machines are de signed to be connected to a cold water supply only, which further helps to keep electricity consumption to a minimum. The machine heats only as much water as it needs so no heat is wasted in the pipes between the hot water tank and the machine, as can happen with traditional hot and cold fill machines. On average, the washing machine heats 3 litres of water for every 1 kg of wash ing, so it only heats 18 litres per wash. Compare that with the cost of heating the whole of your hot water tank! Connecting to cold water also gives you the best system for stain removal, so you can be assured of excellent results. Water consumption Miele washing machines are designed to wash a full load of washing and use 47 litres of water during each programme for perfect wash results. With the W 2859 i WPM & W 1614 models, this water level consumption has been reduced to only 42 litres making these appliances much more environmentally friendly. Saving your clothes Because Miele machines care for your clothes more than other machines, they actually prolong the life of your garments. Miele machines are tested thousands of times before they are deemed fit for sale. The inside drum is actually tested with a silk stocking to identify any blemishes, which may snag your clothes. The result: your designer clothes keep their looks for longer! 9
