At Miele – true to our company slogan –
we are driven to deliver real value. 24/7,
365 days a year our products are subjected
to excruciating longevity tests where they
have to meet our quality benchmark of
performing 5,000 programmes. This
equates to a product life of 20 years under
average household use and is considerably
longer than that tested by consumer
associations world wide and three times
longer than for most car motors.

During the longevity testing, which on the
washing machines is 10,000 hours and
7,500 hours on the tumble dryers, some
parts are subjected to the follow ing tests:
• Door lock and hinges have to withstand
60,000 openings and closings on the
washing machines. On average, we
assume that our customer would open
and close the door 12 times from the
time the first item is loaded until the end
of a wash programme
• Even after 600 hours of continuous
spinning – that is 25 days on end – our
washing machines are expected to
function properly
• In addition, the drain pump is tested
at both cold and 95° hot water for
1,000 hours
• The drive mechanism on our tumble
dryers is tested for the whole 7,500 hours
with 6 kg in the drum which is more than
the rated load
• The condensate pump has to withstand
10,000 hours continuous operation
These are just a few examples of Miele’s
extreme longevity testing. Parts that do not
meet this standard will not be used in a
Miele. These quality requirements are
unique, we are confident that no oth er
washing machine manufacturer tests to
this level or extent.
