Washing machine features at a glance Looking at laundry through fresh eyes Electronic controls All Miele washing machines have fully electronic controls. These have no moving parts, which means much less wear and tear to the machine and a very wide choice of “intelligent” programmes. Easy programme selection With a single dial control, touch buttons or state of the art Navitronic controls, Miele machines are extremely easy to use. Every programme has a choice of appropriate tempera tures, so there is no danger of making a mistake. Water Plus system With the Water Plus button you can raise the water level in the machine and/or add an extra rinse cycle. This is invaluable if you live in an area with soft water, want to use phosphate free detergent or if a member of your family has sensitive skin.This function is programme dependent. For a quiet wash With different levels of sound insulation depending on spin speeds, Miele washing machines are extremely quiet in operation – both during the wash and the spin cycle, even when spinning at high speeds. Spin speeds of up to 1600 rpm Depending on the model, Miele washing machines offer a choice of spin speeds of up to 1600 rpm. A gradual run up to spin and an imbalance check ensure that your laundry is handled as gently as possible. There is also a top limit to the spin speed for various programmes to prevent fabrics from being spun at an inappropriate speed. Anti crease action At the end of the wash programme the drum continues to turn intermittently for half an hour to prevent the washing from settling into creases and folds. The drum can be accessed at any time during this period. Automatic foam sensing Should overfoaming occur in the drum, the motor automatically reduces the drum rhythm, enabling the foam to subside. Once this has happened, the original drum rhythm is restored and an extra rinse cycle is brought into the programme. This means that good wash results are always achieved. Hydromatic system All Miele washing machines work on the Hydromatic system where specially de signed drum ribs with fins scoop up the water and carry it to the top of the drum, before releasing it onto the laundry from above, ensuring efficient soak ing. This means that you use very little water – only 42 litres on the top of the range models and the W 1614 Young Style. Ball valve A self-activating ball valve saves on detergent. During the wash cycle the float ing ball presses itself tightly against the outlet of the suds container to prevent the detergent from escaping into the sump. The detergent remains in the suds container, so you use less and the environment has to cope with less pollution. 18
Short wash Every programme has a built in guaranteed wash time for the main wash. If however, the items you are washing are not heavily soiled and don’t need quite so long, the short wash button can be used to reduce the length of the main wash and shorten the programme. Soak The soak programme can be used for pre-treating stained cottons, minimum iron garments and delicates. The laundry is steeped in water and detergent at a low temperature combined with a little agitation. It precedes the main wash and is an effective alternative to pre-wash. The waterproof system The top of the range models are enhanc ed by the Waterproof anti-leak system. A double safety valve attached to the stopcock will automatically switch off the water supply and close the washing machine down within seconds of a water leak occuring. It only takes 1 litre of water to activate the system. The water control system The Water Control System incorporates a float switch to detect leaks, and a time controlled safety check which automatically closes off the water inlet and drains water out of the machine if it does not fill within a specific time-frame. Child resistant controls All Miele washing machines have a child resistant control panel. Once the programme has been running for six minutes, any alterations to the selected setting are ignored, so little fingers can not upset your wash. Models with electronic system locking will also lock the door and machine when not in use. Drain filter The drain filter is an excellent example of Miele’s user friendly design. It is positioned so that a bowl will fit underneath, so there will be no puddles on the floor. Sequence A sequence indicator will appear in the display that will inform you which stage your wash programme has reached. AutoClean detergent dispenser This feature ensures a clean detergent drawer after use, a high pressure spray inside the drawer compartment washes away any excess residue, and naturally this feature does not increase water consumption. 19
