Prestige Philately - The Sixth International Rarities Auction May 24, 2008
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - Decimal Issues (continued)
Lot Type Grading Description Est $A
Lot 144
144 ** A B1 1982 Queen's Birthday as the issued 27c but denominated 24c BW #949E(1), unmounted, Cat $5000
(2002).
This was the first issue at the new 27c rate. The rate increase was notified to the printers after the
initial print-run had been completed. Virtually the entire printing had to be destroyed. The only
examples recorded are two singles and a block of 4 that were sold for an average of $4069 at our
auction of 9/3/2002, resulting in the ACSC entry later that year. This stamp is from the original find and,
to the best of our knowledge, no further examples have come to light.{Page 48.1}
Lot 145 - Extract
145 ** A 1994 Greeting Stamps (Flowers) 45c Rose gutter block of 10 (2x5) with Misplaced Perforations
Cat $750++ (2002). The unique gutter block. [The ACSC states that only one sheet was discovered.
Singles are priced at a mere $75 each with no premium for the stamps from which 'LOVE' is
completely omitted. Compare with the relatively common $10 Painting stamp similarly misperforated.
That stamp catalogues at $300 with 'AUSTRALIA $10' at the top, and $400 with 'AUSTRALIA $10'
Omitted]{Page 48.2}
