Best-ever ELS results
Students from GIS are celebrating after
gaining a record-breaking number of
examination passes!
Several English Language Support (ELS)
students recently sat two exams, KET
(Key English Test) is elementary level
and PET (Preliminary English Test) is
lower intermediate level.
These are Cambridge University ESOL
(English to speakers of other languages)
examinations. A record 16 students
passed, which is GIS’s best result ever.
Well done to Head of ELS Mr Berry, ELS
teachers Ms Lenz and Mr Carson and the
students for putting in such a great effort.
In Year 7, Focus, Heng Heng, Leo and
Nan, passed KET. In Year 8, Alex and
Kate passed KET.
In Year 9, Ga Young, Maya and Marian
all passed KET.
In Year 7, Nutt and Kamilla passed PET.
Jennifer, Simon, Lisa and Vamsi from
Year 8 passed the PET examination.
Egor, Year 9, also passed PET.
In other developments, Stas improved by
a remarkable 25 marks; a sign of great
progress. Marian gained the highest ever
KET mark of 82 out of 85!
Anti-Racism Assembly
To mark the International Day
for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination, we held a
special whole school assembly.
Some Primary classes joined
with Secondary in the Main Hall
to hear about how unfair and
cruel racism is.
The assembly was led by Prefect Taya. Berenice read ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’,
a poem comparing the lives of those with and without rights. Maria and Henry in Year 9
then read ‘Half Caste’ a poem that makes fun of racist attitudes.
Taya then gave a video presentation about the dangers and effects of racism. As Dr
Tasker was pointing out how all colours are welcome at GIS, a green eco-ninja made a
surprise appearance!
