identify professional needs for individuals and groups of teachers and provide a means to gauge the<br />

implementation of professional learning against individual professional learning plans and school<br />

improvement plans.<br />

All observation processes may give attention to two types of behavioral evidence, teacher evidence<br />

and student evidence. <strong>Teacher</strong> evidence is based on thin slices of behavior that are notable teaching<br />

moves that can be observed in a classroom. <strong>Teacher</strong> evidence is specific observable behaviors in which<br />

teachers engage when using particular instructional strategies. Student evidence is specific observable<br />

behaviors in which students engage in response to the teacher’s use of particular instructional<br />

strategies. The feedback process related to the use of the observation instruments may include<br />

information concerning questions for teacher reflection. There is no expectation that the questions be<br />

answered formally. The reflection questions are intended to stimulate self‐reflection and conversation<br />

pertaining to teacher practices in relation to the EPC or descriptor. The frequency of formal<br />

observations, informal observations and walkthroughs that is expected in the district for Category I,<br />

Category II and teachers on a PDP is delineated below.<br />
