<strong>Focus</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Priority</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> (<strong>FAPS</strong>)<br />

<strong>Bonus</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong><br />

Purpose<br />

The purpose of the <strong>FAPS</strong> <strong>Bonus</strong> is to assist the District in meeting its Strategic Plan Goals by aligning<br />

Human Capital Management programs, policies, practices <strong>and</strong> resources to support achievement.<br />

Eligibility Guidelines <strong>and</strong> <strong>Requirements</strong><br />

To be eligible for Polk County <strong>Schools</strong> <strong>FAPS</strong> <strong>Bonus</strong> (up to $1750) all qualifying new teachers must<br />

meet all of the requirements outlined below <strong>and</strong> be assigned a “Start Date” on or before<br />

September 17, <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

<strong>Requirements</strong><br />

1. Complete one full year of successful instructional service in a FAP school <strong>and</strong> obtain an overall rating<br />

of “Effective” on his/her <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> performance evaluation. (See Eligible <strong>FAPS</strong> on back of this form.)<br />

Eligible teachers who accept an instructional position in a <strong>Focus</strong> school (i.e., D school) will<br />

receive a $1000 new teacher bonus.<br />

Eligible teachers who accept an instructional position in a <strong>Priority</strong> school (i.e., F school) will<br />

receive a $1750 new teacher bonus.<br />

2. Have never been employed as a teacher with the Polk County School District.<br />

(The teacher must be a first time instructional employee to Polk County <strong>Schools</strong> for the <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong><br />

school year.)<br />

3. Sign a Conditional Offer of Employment (COE) in order to fill an instructional vacancy in a FAP<br />

school.<br />

4. Read, sign, <strong>and</strong> submit the <strong>FAPS</strong> <strong>Bonus</strong> Agreement Form (i.e., this form).<br />

5. Meet the conditions of employment described on the Conditional Offer of Employment (COE)<br />

pertaining to Certified (C), Qualified (Q), <strong>and</strong> Highly Qualified (HQ), <strong>and</strong> meet the eligibility<br />

requirements for hire in Polk County as described in Board Policy 3.001.<br />

6. Must hold or be deemed eligible to hold a Professional Florida Educator Certificate in the assigned<br />

subject area at the time of the request.<br />

(Note: New teachers hired <strong>and</strong> assigned to teach Reading at the secondary level, must hold or be<br />

deemed eligible to hold a Professional Florida Educator Certificate in Reading K-12 or be eligible for<br />

an Academic Endorsement in Reading.)<br />

7. Be recommended by the hiring administrator for reappointment for the <strong>2013</strong>-2014 school year.<br />

New teachers, who accept a teaching position with one of the following schools, may be eligible for the<br />

<strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> <strong>FAPS</strong> <strong>Bonus</strong>.<br />

(Note: Although high schools are not listed in the tables below, this bonus will also apply to those high<br />

schools who receive a grade of D or F for the 2011-<strong>2012</strong> school year. These grades will be released<br />

December <strong>2012</strong>.)<br />

Any PCSB high school who receives a grade of F for the 2011-<strong>2012</strong> school year.<br />

IMPORTANT -PLEASE READ<br />

<strong>Requirements</strong> must be met at the time of the request.<br />

For example, if a teacher is required to hold or be deemed eligible to hold a Professional<br />

Certificate in order to be approved for a specific bonus, the teacher will not be eligible for the<br />

bonus if he or she does not hold the certificate at the time of the request.<br />

Once a request is submitted, it will be processed based on the current status of the teacher.<br />

The duration of this incentive program is contingent upon the availability of sufficient grant funds.<br />

No bonuses will be processed after the fiscal year during which the employee starts to work.<br />

<strong>Bonus</strong>es will be paid upon successful completion of one full year of satisfactory instructional service, an overall<br />

rating of Effective on his/her teacher evaluation, AND recommendation for reappointment for the upcoming<br />

school-year.<br />

New teacher’s failure to successfully complete his/her probationary period or who is terminated for cause<br />

would result in bonus forfeiture.<br />

PCSB reserves the right to withhold a bonus as a result of a transfer from FAP school into a non- FAP school<br />

(prior to the end of the school-year).<br />
