Corporate Resource Management Key priority areas: • Human resource management • Financial management • Information management • Physical resource management Corporate resource management describes the functions and activities that underpin the delivery of policing services to the Queensland community. The functions and activities are provided through Human Resources, Finance, and Administration Divisions and Information and Communications Technology. Strategies • Employ human resource management policies and practices to support all staff. • Provide information management systems and information services to support and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the Service. • Ensure the effective and efficient use of Service resources. • Ensure all legislative and government-imposed obligations are met (for example FOI, EEO, Waste Management, Building Codes). • Ensure effective planning for and management of the Service's human, financial, information and physical resources. • Plan and implement the Service's capital works and other assets programs. Priority policing During the year the Service developed the Priority Policing Policy to enhance first response policing. Under the policy, existing police resources are directed into frontline duties as necessary to address peaks in calls for service and maximise police response capacity. One strategy being effectively employed in relation to road safety is the deployment of non operational staff over holiday periods. A strong, visible policing presence on Queensland roads is an essential element of the QPS road safety response. Over Easter 2008 this deployment strategy resulted in a 40% increase in officer hours dedicated to traffic duties. Significant enforcement outcomes were achieved including a: • 47% increase in seatbelt Traffic Infringement Notices • 30% increase in the number of Random Breath Tests conducted • 30% increase in the number of non camera speed offences detected • 22% increase in other offences detected • 2% increase in arrests for drink driving. Due to the success of the deployments over the Easter and Queen’s Birthday long weekends in 2008, the use of non operational staff for traffic enforcement will continue and be expanded over each holiday period in 2008–09.
