73 Plano ISD <strong>Career</strong> and <strong>Technical</strong> <strong>Education</strong> students advance to national/international level competitions in<br />

their various co-curricular organizations! Congratulations to the CTE students, staff and organizations for the<br />

recent success at their state level events.<br />

DECA – 16 students competed at State with 7 advancing to International.<br />

HOSA – 83 students competed at State with 18 advancing to National.<br />

Computer Science<br />

Congratulations to the computer programming teams from PESH, PSHS and PWSH for their participation in the<br />

district and regional UIL programming contests. PSHS placed 1st at District UIL and PWSH placed 2nd. At the<br />

Regional UIL contest, PWSH placed 3rd and PSHS placed 4th. Cindy Gallatin’s programming team at PSHS<br />

placed 4th at the state-level HP Code Wars contest.


Culinary Arts (Plano East) – 11 students competed at State with 3 advancing to National.<br />

SkillsUSA state winners in Culinary Arts related events are Amber Kukowski - Customer Service, Belami Peek -<br />

Food and Beverage and Kati Villeneuve - Job Skill Demonstration. Belami received a $15,000 scholarship for<br />

winning the Gold! Amber received the Ben E. Keith Scholarship of $5,000!<br />

The Culinary Arts, ProStart team won 2nd in the State competition for designing their restaurant “La Bella<br />

Vita” from conception to finish. The Texas team that won first place at State went on to win first place at<br />

the National competition.<br />

Ag Science<br />

Twelve Agriculture Science students from each of Plano’s three FFA chapters recently competed in the State<br />

Veterinary Medicine CDE at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. Congratulations to<br />

Paige Coody, Courtney Erickson, Caroline Burten, and Lindsey Daniel of the Plano East Senior High Veterinary<br />

Medicine team (pictured below) as they placed 2nd out of 69 teams. Paige Coody was the 3rd high individual<br />

in the contest out of 257 contestants from the state of Texas.<br />

Abby Weyrens, of the Plano East Senior High FFA chapter, was the 2nd high individual out of 202 individuals<br />

at the State Dairy Cattle Evaluation contest at Tarleton State. She missed first place by only five points. We<br />

are very proud for her as she will be attending South Dakota State University to study Dairy<br />

Production/Management.<br />

Congratulations to the many FFA students that have done well at area, district and state level <strong>Career</strong><br />

Development Events. <strong>Student</strong>s competed in a variety of events including Wildlife, Floriculture, Dairy<br />

Products, Entomology, Food Science and Ag Mechanics.<br />
