Snow Poem
By Kassandra Linn
Eighth grade
The snow falls gently to the
earth,
Giving the prairie grass new
birth.
Children make snowmen, snow
angels, and snow forts,
A foot of snow, WOW WHAT A
BLAST!
Not having school for two days,
made many happy.
Climbing high up on the snow I
was a snow queen,
Of a vast snow kingdom.
Seeking out my cats was way
too much fun
Like a wintertime mystery.
Snowing for two days sure felt
like a blizzard,
Being snowed in at my house
made me feel very cozy.
Having hot chocolate made my
joy complete,
As I watched my little sister, I
cuddled up in a blanket.
And fell asleep, not a care in the
world.
Spending time with my family,
Dad, Mom, and Sis
Was a wonderful way to pass
time
As the snow fell gently to the
earth.
Springtime
By Jacob Linn
Eighth grade
It started to storm Monday afternoon,
Rain and snow and sleet all one
sitting.
The heifers seemed at peace nothing
going on,
The phone rang, “No school tomorrow”
Looks like I got the night shift.
The snow started to drift,
It was coming down hard,
It looked quite fightful out, looked
too cold for me,
But never-the-less, it was my turn.
I went out before at eight,
And Ben was at ten,
So I was putting on my coat,
To go back out at twelve.
I walked out through the snow so
thick,
Not being able to see, five feet
ahead
The snow was blinding and piling
up quick
Good thing the heifers were already
in the shed.
The first calf I found was way out
in the cold
All curled up in the snow, I could
barely even see him.
His mama was worried sick, the
calf wasn’t very old,
I took the calf to warmth, and his
mama was feeling better.
The rest of the heifers were perfectly
fine.
Chewing their cud and watching
the snow fall.
And the next day and night, I do
it all over again.
Working with cattle both day and
night, I don’t mind at all
In fact I enjoy it. It’s one of my favorite
times of the year.
Spring
By Carter Elshere
Spring is such a joyous time
There are so many things to do,
So many calves being born
On the fresh green grass, covered
in dew.
The snow begins to melt off
And leaves a bunch of mud,
Which leads to nice green grass
All over the prairie sod.
I always ride my horse
To tag and check calves,
We tag a few every day
If their ears aren’t in halves!
I can ride my dirt bike
All over God’s green land,
Up through draws and trees
Any by the river’s sand.
I am getting ready for rodeo,
Which rolls around in June,
Roping steers, and riding broncs,
Will be coming around the corner
soon.
Before we even know it
Branding will be coming,
Then on to sorting pairs
That soon will be hauling.
Spring is such a fun time for me
With all our ranch work and activities,
I feel for the kids that don’t get to
experience what I do
Especially the ones that live in the
big cities!
Springtime
By Savana Johnston
Eighth grade
Springtime is a fun time of the
year
It is very busy with so many
things to do
Calving is my favorite
With all the little baby calves
They are all so cute!
From pure black to baldy or even
red
It doesn’t matter to me!
They play and run and check
things out
It doesn’t matter what they do
They are always cute!
We finally got some moisture
And we are all thanking the Lord
It is pretty hard on the calves
But they will get through it
We have only lost one
As far as I know
It is pretty hard to find them
Down in the deep snow.
Riding my horse to do many
things
Searching through the snow
For little baby calves
I can’t wait to ride in the nice
weather!Watching the change that
the snow will bring
It won’t be long until we see
The grass is growing
The flowers will bloom
They will really take off after this
snow storm
The cows love the green grass
And the horses do too
Practicing rodeo
Which will be here soon!
From roping calves, to running
barrels
It will all satisfy me!!
