145. The Committee took note of the information presented by the secretariat and called on all<br />

prospective Parties to endeavour to accelerate their processes with a view to bringing the <strong>Convention</strong> into<br />

force at the earliest possible date.<br />

VIII. OTHER MATTERS<br />

Tribute to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Germany<br />

146. On behalf of the Committee, the Chair expressed gratitude to the Government and people of the<br />

Federal Republic of Germany for their hospitality and for hosting the meeting and congratulated them on the<br />

twelfth anniversary of German reunification, on 3 October 2002.<br />

Tenth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee<br />

147. The Committee welcomed the offer conveyed by the representative of the Government of<br />

Switzerland to host the tenth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee in Geneva from 17 to<br />

21 November 2003 and to make a significant financial contribution.<br />

Fourth meeting of the Interim Chemical Review Committee<br />

148. The Committee noted the proposed dates and venue of the fourth meeting of the Interim Chemical<br />

Review Committee: from 3 to 7 March 2003, in Rome.<br />

Workshops<br />

149. The representatives of Panama and Argentina offered to host workshops for the Latin American and<br />

Caribbean region.<br />

World Trade Organization<br />

150. Noting the increasing links on trade issues between the <strong>Rotterdam</strong> <strong>Convention</strong> and the work of the<br />

World Trade Organization (WTO), the Committee requested the secretariat to prepare a paper detailing the<br />

ongoing and planned cooperation with WTO on aspects of the <strong>Rotterdam</strong> <strong>Convention</strong> related to international<br />

trade.<br />

Amendments to the text of the <strong>Convention</strong><br />

151. The representative of the secretariat informed the meeting that, as given in document<br />

UNEP/FAO/PIC/INC.9/INF/2, a correction to the text of the <strong>Convention</strong> had been made by the Depositary.<br />

IX. ADOPTION OF THE <strong>REPORT</strong><br />

152. The Committee adopted its report on the basis of the draft report which had been circulated during<br />

the meeting, as amended, and on the understanding that finalization of the report would be entrusted to the<br />

Rapporteur, working in conjunction with the secretariat.<br />

X. CLOSURE OF THE MEETING<br />

153. Following the customary exchange of courtesies, the Chair declared the session closed at<br />

1.30 p.m. on Friday, 4 October 2002.<br />
