Electron spins in quantum dots<br />

• Coulomb blockade confines excessive electron number at one per<br />

dot.<br />

Spins of electrons are qubits.<br />

• Qubits can be addressed individually:<br />

‣ Back gates can move electrons into magnetized or high-g layer<br />

to produce locally different Zeeman splitting.<br />

‣ Or a current wire can produce magnetic field gradient.<br />

• Exchange coupling is controlled by electrically lowing the tunnel<br />

barrier between dots
