Biography - Countess Russell (1866-1941), English authoress, was known better by the<br />

name "Elizabeth," after publishing her most famous novel Elizabeth and her German<br />

Garden. She was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Henry Herron Beauchamp (1825-1907) and Elizabeth<br />

(Louey) Weiss Lassetter (1836-1919) and a cousin <strong>of</strong> Katherine Mansfield. She married<br />

Count Henning August von Arnim (d. 1910) and spent 20 years on his East Prussian<br />

estate (Nassenheide). Elizabeth returned to England and married John Francis Stanley<br />

Russell, 2nd Earl Russell in 1916. <strong>The</strong>y were separated in 1919. Her friends included<br />

many writers and also the select groups which visited her estate. She traveled extensively<br />

in Europe and the United States before her death in 1941. [For further information see<br />

<strong>The</strong> children <strong>of</strong> Mary Annette Beauchamp “Elizabeth” and Henning August von Arnim<br />

were: 1. Sophie Eva Luise Anna von Arnim (Graves), born December 8, 1891, in<br />

Germany; 2. Elizabeth Irene von Arnim (Butterworth), born February 15, 1893, in<br />

Germany, and died May 20, 1976, in California; 3. Beatrix Edith von Arnim (von<br />

Hirschberg), born April 3, 1894, in Germany; 4. Felicitas Joyce von Arnim, born July 29,<br />

1899, in London, and died June 3, 1916, <strong>of</strong> pneumonia; 5. Henning Bernad von Arnim<br />

(Rebecca Le Breton), born October 27, 1902. in London.<br />

Caro von Arnim, daughter <strong>of</strong> Rebecca Le Breton and Henning Bernd von Arnim and<br />

niece <strong>of</strong> Corwin and Elizabeth Butterworth, is found in the 1930 Census <strong>of</strong> Erie<br />

County, New York, She married <strong>The</strong>odore B. Taylor in 1948, and they divorced in<br />

1992. She had a sister, Mary von Arnim, and a brother, Henning Bernd von Arnim who<br />

married Patricia Knox. <strong>The</strong> father, Henning Bernd von Arnim married 2. Benlah Ellis. It<br />
