PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE<br />

Battery Cables<br />

WARNING! Battery cables can cause fires<br />

resulting in death or personal injury and/or<br />

property damage if not properly maintained<br />

and located. Regularly inspect the battery<br />

cables and connectors for damaged or compromised<br />

cable insulation. Contact your<br />

Authorized Service Center if you are in need<br />

of repairs or information.<br />

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery<br />

cable.<br />

Battery cables have a protective insulation covering the<br />

metal cable. Contact your authorized service center to<br />

have the cables replaced if you find any chafing, tears or<br />

breaks in the insulation and the cable is visible through<br />

the tear or break.<br />

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM<br />

Battery Access<br />

The vehicle is originally equipped with two batteries.<br />

Replacement batteries must meet the following specifications:<br />

maintenance-free, group 31 size, threaded stud,<br />

12V/650 cold cranking ampere (CCA), and 160 minutes of<br />

reserve capacity. The battery compartment has space to<br />

install an optional third battery.<br />

The battery compartment is located on the left side of the<br />

vehicle, under the cab access steps.<br />

The cover is held in place by two latches one on each<br />

side.<br />

WARNING! Always reinstall the battery compartment<br />

cover (step) before entering the cab.<br />

Without the step you could slip and fall,<br />

resulting in death or possible injury to yourself.<br />

WARNING! Battery posts, terminals, and<br />

related accessories contain lead and lead<br />

compounds, chemicals known to the State of<br />

California to cause cancer and reproductive<br />

harm. Wash hands after handling.<br />
