Tachometer<br />

The vehicle’s tachometer measures the engine speed in revolutions–per–minute<br />

(rpm). Watching the tachometer is<br />

important to driving efficiently. It will let you match driving<br />

speed and gear selection to the operating range of your<br />

engine. If the engine speed gets too high, you can select a<br />

higher gear to lower the rpm's. If the engine speed drops too<br />

low, you can select a lower gear to raise the rpms. See page<br />

98 for further instructions on driving techniques and using the<br />

tachometer.<br />

• To avoid engine damage, do not let the pointer exceed<br />

maximum governed speed. See page 98.<br />

• When driving downhill, shift to a lower gear and use the<br />

service brake, keeping the engine speed below the maximum<br />

governed speed.<br />

The hour meter (option) records the time in hours the engine<br />

is operating.<br />
