TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH<br />

Introduction<br />

Follow these steps to ensure parts are properly lubricated:<br />

• Maintain oil level, check it regularly<br />

• Change oil regularly<br />

• Use the correct grade and type of oil<br />

• Buy oil from a reputable dealer<br />

All Transmissions<br />

Oil Change: Drain and replace according to Table 2, “Recommended<br />

Maintenance Intervals,” Page 121 and the Transmission<br />

Service Manual. Use the recommended types of oil<br />

as specified in the Operation and Service Manual (included<br />

with vehicle). Select the appropriate lubricant for the<br />

expected ambient (outside air) temperatures.<br />

Transmission Lubricants<br />

Preventive Maintenance<br />

CAUTION: When adding oil, types and brands of<br />

oil should not be intermixed because of possible<br />

incompatibility, which could decrease the effectiveness<br />

of the lubrication or cause component<br />

failure.<br />

Manual Transmissions<br />

Manual transmissions are designed so that the internal parts<br />

operate in a bath of oil circulated by the motion of gears and<br />

shafts.<br />

Service Intervals<br />

For recommended types and brands of all lubricants, see the<br />

transmission manufacturer's Service Manual and Table 2,<br />

“Recommended Maintenance Intervals,” Page 121.<br />
