Brake System<br />

Calipers - Visually inspect calipers for brake fluid leakage,<br />

damaged or defective pistons or piston boots. If<br />

there is evidence of leakage, damage, or other<br />

defects the caliper should be replaced or<br />

repaired.<br />

Disc brake rotors - Visually inspect rotors for scoring, warping,<br />

cracks, bluing or heat spots or other damage<br />

or defects. If signs of damage or defects are<br />

found, the rotor(s) should be resurfaced or<br />

replaced in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’s<br />

recommended service procedure.<br />

Preventive Maintenance<br />

Visually inspect brake shoe lining for wear, cracks, or breakage.<br />

If linings are worn down to 2.5 mm (0.10 in), they must<br />

be replaced. Inspect brake drum for deep scores, heat spots,<br />

cracks, or damage. Replace if needed.<br />

Anchor plates - Visually inspect anchor plates for worn or<br />

damaged slippers, damaged or dislodged guide<br />

pin boots or other defects. If signs of wear, damage<br />

or defects are found, the anchor plate(s)<br />

should be repaired or replaced.<br />

Parking Brake Component Inspection<br />

NOTE: If you are not properly trained to perform<br />

brake inspections or service, take your vehicle to<br />

your nearest <strong>Peterbilt</strong> dealer.<br />
