Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)<br />

Service the air cleaner filter elements as specified in "PART<br />

8: MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE". If your vehicle is<br />

equipped with an optional air inlet restriction indicator, service<br />

the filter elements when the air inlet restriction indicator<br />

locks in the extreme Up position.<br />

Paper elements require care and proper handling because<br />

they are critical to engine service life.<br />

Turbocharger<br />

When servicing the air intake and exhaust systems on a<br />

turbocharged engine, check the items that follow. If you<br />

detect any deficiencies, take the vehicle to an authorized<br />

dealer for servicing. Delay could lead to severe and expensive<br />

damage to your vehicle.<br />

WARNING! Do not operate engine with turbocharger<br />

intake piping disconnected. Working<br />

around a turbocharger with the intake<br />

piping removed can be dangerous. A suction<br />

is created when the engine is running. This<br />

suction could draw your hand or anything else<br />

near it into the impeller fan. You could be seriously<br />

injured. Always keep the intake piping<br />

connected when you will be running the engine.<br />

PART 8: MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE<br />

• Lubricating System: Check the oil lines, housing, and<br />

connections. Look for leaks, damage, or deterioration.<br />

Leaks could mean you have damaged oil lines or oil<br />

seals.<br />

• Manifold: With the engine operating, check for leaking<br />

manifold or flange gaskets.<br />

• High Frequency Vibration: Vibration may indicate<br />

turbo rotor imbalance. Have your dealer investigate<br />

this immediately.<br />

Exhaust System<br />

Details of inspection and maintenance of your exhaust system<br />

are covered under "Noise Control System".<br />

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)<br />

For details of use and maintenance of your anti-lock system,<br />

see the anti-lock braking system service literature that<br />

came with your truck.<br />

Below are some general notes on repairing your anti-lock<br />

braking system:<br />

• The foundation brake system must be in proper working<br />

order to ensure the best ABS performance.<br />
