Case Scenario #4 (Paramedic) EMS providers respond to a call of a Heartmate XVE patient in distress. Patient’s chief <strong>com</strong>plaint is dizziness. Upon arrival, EMS providers attach an ECG monitor and quickly reveal lth the patient ti is in v-tach tach. The paramedics attempt t to defibrillate the patient and in doing so short circuit the system controller. The pump stops and hand-pumping is now necessary to maintain support. Disconnect system monitor before cardioversion; handpumping p and/or system controller change-out required
Case Scenario #5 (Patient) A newly discharged D.T. patient with a Heartmate XVE ac<strong>com</strong>panies his wife to see a movie at the theater. The length of the movie is 2.5 hours, short enough for him to see the movie under 1 set of batteries. He decides to leave his extra batteries and hand pump in the car. After the movie he realizes their car was stolen. He has approximately 45 minutes of charge left on his current set.
