Victim Aju Dehuri (33) lived with his mother and his sister in Jiral. Jiral is a poor village with around 300<br />
inhabitants. The villagers are illiterate and they earn their money by cultivation and labor work. People<br />
of other castes like Brahmin, Khandayats or cultivators live next to the village.<br />
On 4 January 2008 a police van reached at Jiral and stopped Aju Dehuri. The Assistant Sub-inspector<br />
PC Edas asked Aju Dehuri for his name. He replied Aju Dehuri. Moreover the ASI asked for the<br />
residence of Musa Dehuri. Aju told him that he heard about the man, but he wasn’t able to recognize him<br />
or his house again.<br />

The ASI became angry by this fact and beat Aju severely times with his stick whereby Aju’s middle<br />
finger got cut. After this injury he went to the Jiral hospital. As a result of his poorness neither he wasn’t<br />
able to do anything against the police nor his village people wanted to support him.<br />

Case Details:<br />
Victim Sridhar Naikage (34) lived with his family in Nagiapari a village with in between 400 and 500<br />
inhabitants under the Police Station Sadar. They are members of the scheduled castes, as every<br />
inhabitant of Nagiapari. Other caste people live next to the village such as Khandayats and Kandaras.<br />
In fact the villagers live by labor works and cultivation as far as some are service holders. Sridhar has<br />
two sons and a daughter and caused by this many difficulties in feeding his family.<br />
On 20 January 2008 there was again a quarrel between two persons called Murali Naik and Anam<br />
Naik. Often had they been in conflict with each other and so the village chief members wanted to<br />
compromise them, but it was all in vain. Finally the fighters used their daughters and wives as weapons<br />
for this case.<br />
